CHIANG MAI:-- Police are investigating the claims made by a British woman who says she was sexually assaulted as she slept in a Chiang Mai guesthouse.

The unnamed woman told police how she was sleeping naked next to her boyfriend, who is also believed to be British, when she was woken up by a male employee of the guesthouse who had entered their room, got into bed and began touching her.

Upon waking, the woman screamed and her boyfriend fought off the Thai man before the police were called, Sanook News reported.

During questioning the woman told officers that earlier in the day she had hugged the accused to say thank you for helping her locate a power socket.

When questioned, the 32 year old hotel clerk denied the accusations made against him, and told police a different version of events.

He said that he had heard a loud noise coming from the room of the British couple and went to investigate. He claimed he entered the room and saw the woman sleeping naked as he stood over her next to the bed. However, he said he didn’t get into bed and this was when the woman woman woke up.

The report didn’t name the guesthouse or any of those involved.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
