CHANTHABURI: -- Police in Chanthaburi invited young street racers to watch their noisy exhausts being crushed by a steamroller at a police station yesterday.

One of the offending exhausts even had a sign saying it cost 20,000 baht before it was reduced to flattened scrap metal.

The haul of 118 exhausts were confiscated from street racers using Sukhumvit Road and beach roads in the jurisdiction of the Na-yai-am police, reports Thairath.

Yesterday they invited the racers and top brass from police HQ in the province to witness the destruction. The latter were pictured smiling profusely.

A crackdown on souped-up noisy racing of bikes and cars in the area netted 147,100 in fines from June to December, said local station chief Prasert Mahem.

The force said the racers had annoyed both locals and tourists in the area with their noise and they wanted the youths to witness the destruction of their expensive accessories as a valuable lesson.

In the big PR exercise parents were also reminded to look after their children to stop them going out at night and racing.

Wonder how many of the racers showed up.

Maybe too busy making the next and better (meaning to the vans boys more noisy) exhausts.

pointless. need to flatten the complete bikes  for the young guys to take notice. thats what they do in australia when the guys are caught hooning. whole car gets crushed.

And what about the busses, heavy lorries and Tuk Tuks ?

Easy to punish kids, but scared to piss off the mafia...

Excellent, now what about the pick ups racing up and down (and crashing regularly) on Sukhumvit in Ban Chang!!!

true , but only after the third offence .

thai cops ,im starting to think arnt all that silly .

if they confiscate and crush the cars ,they would be reducing there income ,conciderably.:w00t:

Let me guess. The racers are now driving without any exhaust piping at all.

Can the Chanthaburi boys in blue be given time off to come to Jomtien and teach their ineffective colleagues here how to stop a bike ? I would gladly pay their travel costs.

Please crush all the noisy advertising pick-ups' sound systems. They are much more annoying than loud exhausts.

They are racing around 24/7 in my area.  Nothing done about it

They can't do this to the longtailboats/jetski's/motorized lawnmowers....they even don't have an exhaust :post-4641-1156693976:

And that's how stupid they are in Australia, when the alternative would be auction the vehicles and the money goes to charity.

I can't wait until they invite the Yaams to attend the whistle crushing event.

Love the concept. The patience of our Royal Thai Police has obviously been EXHAUSTED !

Please please it's high time they enforce tougher punishment to these street racers regardless of who they are

I think this is the first definite thing that i have ever heard of the RTB doing. Now all they need to do,is to follow it up by stopping ten year olds driving the damn things.

Wow the natives here are really restless on this one myself included. Sorry I just kept hitting the like button but only got it to spit out one.

While they are at it, how about the cars and pick-ups that have modified exhausts, which are just, if not more noisy ?

Especially those which are fitted out with multi-megawatt sound systems to boot.

Don't get it? How can it cost 20,000 Baht to remove the interior of an ordinary muffler, have I missed something??
