BANGKOK:-- Pickpockets are preying on the public in the Asoke area of Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok.

A woman who had two phones stolen from a bag outside a convenience store went online to say that when she reported the incident to Thong Lor police she was just one of four cases.

The woman - 40 year old Suphavadee - made a heartfelt appeal to the thief on Facebook saying that the phones contained precious images of the last moments of her father who died recently.

She even said she would pay for their return and not press charges such was the importance to her of her phones and their contents.

The theft occurred as she was walking from terminal 21 to Emporium and happened near the end of Sukhumvit Soi 25.

Thai Rath said that video footage from CCTV at the convenience store showed the thief clearly.

Pickpockets have been a huge problem in this area for many years!

amazing to see an asian walking with their phone in a bag…usually its in front of their face while walking, talking, eating, shitting etc.

Hardly applies to Asians only...

I'm walking on Sukhomvit near Asok just about every day and this is the first I've heard of pickpockets working the area.

I'm on the other side of Asok from where this happened but I'm assuming its only Thais as targets?  Nevertheless, time to

be a little more careful out there.

Got my pocket picked by a katoey just after dark around Suk Soi 7 about 20 years ago. Careless on my part. Had some loose baht bills totaling ß700 in my front pocket. S/he did the ol' grab and snatch. Grab for your dick and distract with one hand, while nimble fingers of the other hand snatch the cash. Realized it seconds later and chalked it up to experience.

Always carry money in buttoned or zippered/velcro pockets.

But you can count yourself lucky. He could have stolen your dick instead of the bills.

What would he do with a loose dick?

If you need to ask what an LB would do with that, you're a very innocent guy.

He had one of his own he would rather be without!

the LB pickpockets also like the dark area around Suk + Soi 6   K-Bank ,  I have pulled my camera phone out a few times on them thru the years and they scatter like cockroaches.......

but it can happen anywhere ,

So why do some guys carry a big fat wallet in the rear pocket  ?    ID , copy of passport , ATM card and a few thousand baht  is about all you need if  you are just going out for a few hours.......

They are also grabbing those purses the Asian men carry.  Stupid to carry it on one shoulder and not with the strap across the neck.  There are also guys on Suk. on motorbikes doing this.

Still good to have an occasional reminder, for newbies and those of us who grow complacent over time.

No worries, Uncle Somchai has received a big order for more signs......:coffee1:

Here is the other side of the story:

I was on the escalator at Asoke MRT. In front of me a Thai lady in business dress with her handbag wide open strapped to her shoulder. On top of other stuff her purse and iPhone, I could have easily taken both. I told her to better close her bag. She shrugged me off and said I should mind my own business…

A foolish and rude person, but you did the right thing. I wouldn't let it deter me from warning naive people.

You forgot "while driving."

Maybe I might start putting fake Vietnamese funeral cash in my easy to get at pockets...., or not.

Why bother with fake cash? Just put real Vietnamese money in there. A few million "dongs" (LOL) are still worth only about 100 baht.
