CHIANG MAI: -- Police in Chiang Mai admit they are baffled after a man was found in a drain yesterday after a drinking session.

The man, a hotel kitchen worker in the central city, had had several items stolen but police have no idea how he got himself stuck.

Phu Ping Ratchaniwet police were called to the area by special branch 191 after reports of a missing man.

They couldn't find him until a local said he had heard noises coming from deep in a drain. Closer inspection revealed that Jaseu, 29, was two meters down the hole.

They got him to move along the drain ten meters before they removed a cover and managed to extricate him.

When he had recovered sufficiently to talk Jaseu told the cops that he had been out drinking with his pals. But he had left the party early and really couldn't remember much after that.

He smelled a bit after his night in the drain so the cops advised him to go back to his digs and take a bath before reporting to the station.

There it was found that he had lost a half baht weight gold necklace, a wallet and a King Rama V coin.

Police don't know whether he lost the items or he perhaps passed out unconscious and was the victim of theft.

And though they investigated in the area there seemed to be no entry point into the drain.

Ergo they are baffled.

Investigations continue.....
