Barber shop offers something extra

A barber in Chiang Mai’s Muang district has become the talk of the town after he began distributing free condoms to his customers.

 

Ekkarin “Ice” Chaiwangkham, owner of Rocky Barber, said he has distributed about 300 condoms since he started made them available about a month ago. Ekkarin has put a jar of condoms in his shop and customers are free to take them.

 

“I got the idea from a customer who works for the Mplus Foundation, which is near my shop,” he said. “The foundation is concerned with the health of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual) people, and it has condoms from the Public Health Ministry. So, I asked him if I could get some for my customers.”

 

Photos and videos of the shop have gone viral on social networks, drawing many positive reactions.

 

Thanachit Maprom, an Mplus staff member, said that distributing condoms at a barber shop was a good move that would help people of all sexual preferences.

 

Customers could use the condoms to protect their own health and that of their partners or to prevent unwanted pregnancies.

Thought this story was about Vietnamese hair dressers shops.....where there's certainly "extras" out the back!

Takes me back to my youth in the UK when our village barber, on finishing a short back and sides, would bend close and whisper, "Something for the weekend, sir?"

 

What a boon he was to us youngsters who were too shy to buy condoms from a chemist!

I don't know about Vietnam, but I have heard stories about a barber shop in the older Don Muang airport and things going on under the  sheet.
