Hua Hin police to get serious on no helmets - but they'll wait until May 1st!

Hua Hin police have said they intend to get tough on motorcyclists not wearing helmets in the holiday town.

But the plans wont come into force for more than two months.

From March 2nd - next Friday - chief Sitthichai Srisophacharoenrat said that helmet-less motorcyclists would get a warning.

But from May 1st they would be stopped and fined - for sure!

The chief was speaking as community leaders, the cops, military, local businesses and the general public took part in activities in the town to kick off the "Safe Riding - 100% Helmet Use" campaign yesterday.

Check out the cap on the pillion passenger front right 555

The locals are quaking in fear already......

Why don't they ever comment on what type of helmet to wear? ie. One that actually affords some decent protection.

Yes that is going to be the next problem, you need a bike with a lock for your helmet or a place to hide it in.The government should sponsor safe helmets but if they are too expensive(and they wil be)the people will just carry the plastic no protection ones.I had nice helmets stolen a few times and now i lock them on the bike..Wearing a helmet is one thing but real protection is another.

A lot of Coppers Helmets here!

Colonial cousins may need Google to understand this.

Why not wait until a couple of more Chinese New Years.

It's  preposterous that police acknowledge failure to enforce laws and give a deadline for doing so.

Gotta love it..        Or cry as the case may be.

Are pillion passengers required to wear helmets??  I guess the helmeted driver, after the accident, can perform first-aid on the severely injured pillion passenger.  It is a rare occurrence to see the pillion passenger(s) with a helmet.

Whats so difficult in giving 500 baht fines for no helmet .

If they did this strictly people would get the message.

I forgot T.I.T. what has happened to my logic?

Except for the three , four or sometimes five underage children on a bike going to and leaving the schools everyday.....also the monk riding sidesaddle on the motorbike taxi with his robes dangling dangerously close to the wheels, and the man carrying 200 eggs in trays in front of him so he cannot see, and the guy with the three gas bottles strapped to the pillion seat, and....and....and.....:whistling:

Of which year?

Why do they waste their time on this? If people want to play Russian Roulette with their life it is entirely up to them. They harm no-one but themselves.

Well hey - why do something now if you can wait until the public forgets. Oh, and don't worry about the dirty air - we'll have a look at it after 2029!

What about the policeman with only a hat. Thay are not even serious themselves. What a joke.

Wonderful picture though, shows the true Thai attitude.. 555. And on May 1st. Pigs will fly, just you watch!

Geezer

Seriously, they're going to wait months to get serious.

You cannot be serious.

you wont believe this but i have seen a pillion rider wearing a beanie in the heat of the afternoon, instead of an actual, functional motorbike helmet.

Good start, provided it's enforced, as reckless driving habbits with the related fatalities and accidents, burden public money and services.

But as many rightfully said it here, wearing an  Ali Express 10€uro plastic helmet is totally useless. The efficient ones have a price tag, that the commoner cannot afford.

So what's the miracle solution to the issue ?

This is one of the stupidest headlines I've read.

Police getting serious about upholding the law! Since when?

Serious on no helmets! One size fits all!

But they wait until May 1st! Not serious at all.

This law has been around for a long time. Spouting their mouths off again for what? Everyone is tired of this scourge!

The only way to make this working is to send the army or an NGO, and let them count the motocy riders on the raods.

For every motocy rider found with no helmet, the budget of the responsible Police station will be cut by 1000 Baht

That time again?

Ha.  Just watch like any webcam on Koh Samui (there are several) and you will rarely see a helmet.

More serious with Falangs not complying!

  • 2 weeks later...

I personally wear my crash helmet every time I ride my bike. The reason I do this is in case I have an accident, it will help protect me, not because its the law.
