An incident of unimaginable horror has occurred above a coffee shop in Chiang Rai.

A wife on medication for a mental condition told police she was compelled to kill her husband after she was left alone with him by a daughter who was the usual carer.

After the daughter went out on an errand Noppaporn Maneerak, 55, went into the kitchen and picked up a meat cleaver and another 8 inch kitchen knife.

She told police she then went upstairs to where her husband Prem Maneerak, 82, was lying on the floor on a mat covered by a blanket. He had recently had an operation on his eyes and was paralyzed.

She used the smaller knife to stab him in the neck but when this didn't kill him she slashed at his neck with the cleaver.

When he was dead she cut out his eyeball.

She then went downstairs and calmly washed the knives leaving them in the sink and turned on the TV.

The daughter came home and everything seemed normal. She went upstairs and found her father dead in a bloodbath. There was blood all over the floor and walls. His left eyeball was hanging by a thread out of its socket.

Police were quickly on the scene and Nopaporn was taken into custody.

Pol Capt Jetjamnong Nukusaka of the Ban Du police told Thai Rath that the wife had admitted everything. She said that she had felt restless and that voices were telling her to kill her husband.

If she didn't respond to the compulsion she would only feel worse so she went to the kitchen to get the knives. She still felt restless after killing him so she cut his eyeball out in order to calm down.

That satisfied the compulsion, she said.

She then went downstairs feeling much better, cleaned up the knives and turned on the TV before the police arrived.

But the tale of abject horror was not the first time that she had killed. Some years ago she killed her own grandson by slashing him with a knife to the neck at a house in Chiang Saen. She was imprisoned for three years for that.

Following that she went to stay with a relative in Laos who she attacked with a chair. As she attempted to murder the woman with a knife she was restrained.

The daughter told Thai Rath that she was the normal carer for her father and had only recently asked her mother to come and stay. She never thought that this would happen while she popped out.

Nopaporn has been charged with premeditated murder and sent for psychiatric evaluation.

They had to let her go because they needed more cells for Facebook offenders.

"Popped out"

Nice one, at least the voices calmed down until another day.

I would have thought that this previous, truly horrific incident should have been more than enough for her to be locked away in some sort of maximum security psychiatric facility for the rest of her days.

She is, it's a mad house called Thailand !

I guess he never saw that coming! The woman suddenly heard voices coming from within, and decides to try a new way to use the kitchen utilities.
