How did you meet your Thai wife?

Okay, not a question you should ask in Thailand, but I'm sure there are some interesting stories. They might even involve Thailand's finest, and I don't mean the police ?

 

I met my own wife through an introduction agency. I had not long turned 40 and thought it was time to settle down and on a brief and unexpected trip to Thailand (not my first visit), I thought I'd see what was available. I looked through the books and the girl I picked out was a friend of the (female) owner. A meeting was arranged for that evening, which turned out to be her birthday (!) but she didn't say much and when I asked her if she wanted to meet again I was surprised that she said yes.

The next evening we met together with her friend from the agency, a lively individual which probably helped my future wife relax more. She was 13 years younger than me, so not excessive at that stage of life, and she worked on the information counter at the Tokyu department store next to Mahboonkrong in Bangkok. She claimed that she only posed for pictures for fun while she was visiting the agency owner. Who knows or cares. We ended up getting married 14 days after we met, and that was over 27 years ago. Now and then I've had to count to 10, sometimes 100, but it's worked out okay.

Lol! I ran mine over. She lived in the same street as me, and walked out of her front gate as I was coming home. I had moved to the far left as a truck was coming the other way and ploughed her down as she bowled out without looking. One thing led to another. Funny the way love works really. You could say she took one look at me and was swept off her feet.

In a Thai restaurant in Rome (Italy), she was the chef. My boss's Thai wife did some matchmaking having decided that "Crossy has woman problems, he doesn't have one".

 

She was also working as a masseuse in a "Centro Esthetico" pummelling fat Italian women for 50 Euros an hour, of which she got paid 10.

That thing the op says about having to count to ten sometimes. i know that feeling. No problem with that really as Im sure I drive her mad sometimes as well. We get by tho.

 

Met in a beach bar / restaurant she was working / running for her friend. She made the strongest cocktails Ive ever had.

She was a friend of a Thai work colleague and had recently returned from UK finishing school, working as a lawyer's secretary in Bangkok. Many decades ago and now long since divorced.....

Through mutual friends simply because we had both worked in the same industry.....

Her, Nissan - me, Toyota/Lexus .....She could interestingly only understand (translate) written english <work related instructions from Japan> at the time - (from which she would then instruct her Thai workers who were building electronic components)....

Took patience but she got it down pretty fast - comical for awhile....

The reading part both helped & hindered (nuance wise) going from technical to conversational....But, we got through it....

A Thai friend of mine who lives in the UK organised a blind date for me whilst I was on holiday in Chiang Mai. She decided that a Thai wife would be perfect for me so she called around a few people to find someone suitable. The first I knew about it was the night before our 'date', although in fairness it wasn't really a surprised.

... I met my Wife through one of my closest friends, a Thai guy I've known since my early 20's.... it was his Birthday party... we were in a bar, well, a Thai style nightclub... 

 

....my future Wife, close friends with my friend's wife also joined the party... I saw her walk in, asked my friend about her, she was single... We chatted, I could tell she was smitten with me.. 

 

The following day I phoned my friends wife to ask her for this girls number... She had to call up my future wife and explain.... "its just a date, he's a nice guy, just have dinner with him, its not as if you are going to marry him or something"...  my future wife yielded, gave permission to give me her number... 

 

I called... We went on a date the next evening, a few more dates and its looking good... a few years later we are married... 10 years on we are married with child....

 

... similar stories are not uncommon amongst my friends who were introduced through other friends...

Met the Mrs in seacon square in bkk. She worked in two shops next to each other. A ladies leather shoe stall and a make up stall. I spotted her wechat ID on the wholesale info marketing label on the shoes and made a habit of passing the shop and talked to her on wechat. Was not easy to begin her English was 5% and the rest she was using a translator. Today she speaks 50-60% and as a bit of fun we do spelling tests which is a great way of demonstrating how much she has learned.

Thank you ..you have given me the courage to come clean and admit ....I went into a somewhat "sleezy" looking Go Go bar one day ...spotted a "fine thing" on the last pole....pulled her down, settled up with the bar people and dragged her to the nearest Ampur. ...Best day of my life.
