They do sell kebab (the Thai) but it's nothing like the real thing...far far from it.

And i don't believe you guys upcountry have the real thing or you would have mentioned the place.

Ah, Ok.

I didn't mention it cause it wasn't important and probably wouldn't mean anything to you anyway?  There was an Israeli guy up here for a while running a place called Green Deli.  https://www.facebook.com/Green-Deli-Thailand-198359787237763/

Gone now, sadly, but it was good while it lasted.  There is a Thai guy who does them at the market in my area, more like what I call a Shawarma though.

I dunno, some of the Donner Kebab I have had down in Soi Ayrab is tasty.

I've been to israeli's at KSR in BKK but also there it was far from a turkish doner kebab in durum wrap.

I've seen the meatrolls on Don Mueang airport but they are made of plastic ...You need a busy place like that though to sell 25 kg of meat every day or 2...

One day on a very very busy market i saw a farang (he looked turkish) standing there with a big roll of meat turning around infront of a burner...but it was so busy there i couldn't even get close to him.

Kebab/shoarma sells like crazy in Europe, strange that it's not in BKK , guess that owner from Sizzlers has to do it...

excerpted from the press release today.

Bangkok: January 22, 2019. After much anticipation and demand, Taco Bell, the world’s leading Mexican-inspired quick service restaurant, will open its first restaurant in Thailand on Thursday, 24 January. Large queues are expected on the first opening day where the first 100 customers will receive limited edition Taco Bell merchandise and have a chance to win free tacos for a whole year. The restaurant is located on the first floor of Mercury Ville mall in central Bangkok.

.

.

The Thailand menu features a selection of Taco Bell’s iconic, Mexican-inspired cuisine, including classics like the Crunchwrap SupremeTM, Grilled Stuft Burrito and trademark Crunchy Taco. The menu also includes items developed to reflect the tastes of the Thai market, such as the Kickin’ Chicken Taco, which features crispy chicken, a unique spicy Kickin’ Sauce, fresh lettuce, pico de gallo salsa and a two-cheese blend, all wrapped in a soft flour tortilla. Additional options include craveable sides like cheesy chips and loaded fries, beverages including freezes unique to Thailand in Mango Madness, Tropical Punch and Berry Blue flavors, and ice cold San Miguel Light, Singha & Chang beers that pair perfectly with the Taco Bell menu.

They were saying the 24th, 10 am, the other day, when I was there....  But the folks behind this operation have some history of last minute changes, so I wouldn't put it past them.

Here's a preview... Enjoy...  Prices don't seem to be that bad, surprisingly....  Single main menu item combo with drink and fries or chips for under 200b generally.

(ThaiVisa won't display the images large enough to see the prices on the menu clearly.. But if you download and save the image files, they have enough resolution that you can see all the pricing clearly in the images themselves.)

Sounds like you desperately need a Loaded Fries or a Big Bell Box!

I agree. On the surface, the expat surcharge doesn't appear to be too bad...

The only thing we won't know till later this week, is how the preparation and portions compare to the U.S. version.

For example, the Thai version of IHOP (run by the same company behind the Taco Bell franchise here) does standard entree orders of pancakes as two pancakes, whereas the U.S. IHOPs do 4 pancakes as their standard entree order.

Looks priced competitively with Sunrise Tacos, i.e. 2 beef tacos for 158 vs 3 Cowboy Tacos for 265 plus chips or beans at Sunrise.  I'll try a burrito there this week, but have the feeling I'll be going back to the Rib Eye Burrito at La Monita nearby (390 baht++).

We need an In-And-Out Burger on Soi Cowboy ????

BTW, for anyone who can't make it to the upcoming Taco Bell location in BKK, there's always the homemade alternative:

Homemade Tostadas, for example:

1885456273_HomemadeTostadas.jpg.c2b1edcca57a22081ebc9b80327ae61e.jpg

Tostada shells -- available from Villa Market (taco shells also)

homemade frijoles -- made from bagged pinto beans sold at Foodland (Villa has also)

ground pork from any supermarket, stir fried with your choice of salsa or hot sauce

shredded cheese -- my favorite is Sargento brand from Villa Market

sliced jalapenos -- Mezzetta brand jars from Villa Market

Take the shells, top with pre-prepared frijoles and meat from the refrigerator. Heat about 1-2 minutes in the microwave. Add shredded cheese. Heat another 1-2 minutes in the microwave. Top with jalapenos as desired. Done!

I see they used the phrase 'Mexican inspired'. That will cover all the chemicals saturated fats and preservatives then.

Crunchwrap Supreme:

Calif -- $3.59

As for the menu in BKK, it appears to be a very small portion overall of the various things available at U.S. Taco Bells.

But on the other hand, the BKK branch is going to be serving french fries....  Whereas for some reason, Taco Bell U.S. seems to be phasing out/or has already has phased out what they called there "Nacho Fries," which apparently were pretty popular.

One interesting thing I just noticed from looking closer at their restaurant menu board I snapped photos of earlier this week -- is Taco Bell BKK going to be serving BEEF as an option with their items???

When I took a closer look at the detail on their menu board just now, I noticed down at the bottom a list of their choices for "proteins."  There are several chicken choices, one pulled pork choice, and no mention of BEEF at all!   Could it be... a BEEFLESS Taco Bell BKK???

966752147_2019-01-2220_05_09.jpg.abd820121c18c5b96c3e876e6628deac.jpg

Yet from the menu item photos of the hard shell tacos and the crunchwrap supreme, the meat depicted in those certainly "looks" like beef....

Please say it isn't so!!!

Well, at least the "in and out" part certainly would be appropros for that location!!!  :giggle:

the brits arrive and usurp the franchise with 'a bit of the olde in and out'...(a famous line from Kubrick's 'A clockwork orange', who was an anglicised yank)
