Chinese tourists ignoring Prayut! Still feeding the pigeons

Daily News said that Chinese tourists on tour groups were ignoring prime minister Prayut Chan-o-cha's orders to stop feeding pigeons.

Word has gone out from on high that feeding the birds is making Thailand dirty and spreading infection.

Prayut has ordered the Bangkok and provincial authorities to stop the public feeding the birds.

Daily News went to the tourist area of the Tha Pae gate in Chiang Mai.

There, despite signage, Chinese tour groups were happily feeding the birds.

Cleaners said there never used to be that many pigeons until the tourists started encouraging them.

Now the place is filthy with pigeon excrement and plastic bags that contained bird feed.

Local deputy mayor Natchudech Wirayadiloktham despaired that it was a problem that had existed for ages.

They have put out signage, clear up the mess and even gathered up birds to release elsewhere but still the birds come in their thousands encouraged by people who feed them.

That's an easy one to fix.dont blame the Chinese.dont blame the pigeons, arrest the thais selling the bird feed in plastic bags.

  • Thais are the  biggest culprits BY FAR, they "lovingly" feed the mangy soi  dogs, that same  food  also gets  eaten by the rats and flying rats ( pigeons) They are becoming a serious  issue  now

  • They managed to put in jail a russian tourist for feeding the fish in Phuket, surely they could do the same here IF THEY WANTED.

They tried that already. They should fine the Chinese 2000baht for this stupid behaviour. And 10,000 baht to the stupid tour leader.

Taking my daughter home from school early evening yesterday around 6-ish. There were so many birds they actually outnumbered the Chinese feeding them. It is out of control.

They are becoming a serious  issue  now throughout the whole of Thailand  even in the countryside by me, I only wish my Air ARms TX200 air  rifle  was legal here, pigeons shit  like crazy and it aint small, take the paint off your car and  will happily  roost in your aircon area, filthy things should be wiped out along with the morons who feed them.

Yeah I never thought about that one.cull the tourists????

Hire the Thai fishermen that are used to throw a net, for sure they will catch some every time, and the other way is prepare the food...Oh no This is Thailand,

Maybe the Chinese should be arrested and sent for 'attitude adjustment'. I'm sure they'd understand the idea, they have 're-education' back at home, don't they?

After doing the license/helmet checks on Moon Muang, the BIBs should go over to taepae gate and fine on the spot anyone feeding the flying rats. More money for the BIBs. The flying rats drive away the native birds which have decreased remarkably in the city. They're out of control at Wat U Mong.

Is there anyone on The Planet that doesn't ignore Prayut ?

Pigeons tend to do that sort of thing when free grub is available ..

I have seen the feed seller and how they operate in CM.  They give the bag of food to a child as soon as possible and then ask the adult for the money.  Time the CM authorities got off their butts and did their job.

Just love that phrase.

Sadly, the grand wind bag is right this one time.  The birds are wild and should fend for themselves.

I guess they won't do what we did in Boston,Mass USA   Many years ago we had literally thousands of pigeons in our 2 downtown parks the Boston Common and Public Garden  tourists used to feed them Spanish peanuts you could buy from vendors.  The pigeons were very tame and would take the food from your hands, perch on your shoulder. They became a health hazard and were pooing all over the buildings. After cats, hawks and traps failed to get rid of the problem the city poisoned them with tainted Spanish peanuts.

Oh NO! God forbid. Where's the nearest attitude adjustment camp?

Almost everybody else ignores Prayut, so why not the Chinese.

Bring in a planeload of Cajuns.

Tell 'em pigeon gumbo is to die for.  And pigeons are out of season.

Problem solved.

Anyone got a copy of the official government order?

I would love to post a copy of this around my soi..

Bird-feeding tourists put fun over safety

Continuing to buy bird feed for the pigeons at Chiang Mai’s Tha Phae Gate, Chinese tourists were on Friday unwittingly defying a prime minister’s order prompted by concern over disease being spread.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha had instructed the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and provincial administrations to stop people from feeding pigeons in a bid to reduce the populations and guard against diseases that could infect humans.

Chiang Mai chief livestock development officer Songsak Sri-amporn said his officials conduct spot checks on pigeons at the Tha Phae Gate every two months to ensure no disease is spreading among the birds.

Chiang Mai Mayor Thassanai Buranupakorn said signs had been erected warning against feeding birds at the gate and in Nong Buak Had Park.

He said feeding the birds only led to more of them gathering in the same spots and the numbers would dwindle only after people stop feeding them.

No way! That is a lot of birds!!!!

Allow some of the hungry to help solve the problem! Squab is supposed to be pretty good!

So....what's the real issue here?
