Another black eye for Pattaya’s sewer system

Another black eye for Pattaya’s sewer system

image.png

PATTAYA:--Pattaya officials said there is nothing they can do currently to prevent sewage from flowing directly into the sea in Naklua during heavy storms.

The Chonburi Natural Resources and Environment Department ordered Pattaya sanitation and wastewater-treatment workers to inspect the hotel-dotted Wong Amat Beach Sept. 27 after a viral video showed black sludge draining into the sea.

Pattaya officials confirmed the sewer pipes shown were not a private, stealthy attempt to dump wastewater illegally, but, in fact, part of Pattaya’s overburdened sewage system.

During heavy storms, runoff enters the sewer system and sewers back up, causing the two to mix and then drain into the sea.

Until Pattaya upgrades its infrastructure, there’s nothing that can be done.

Staffers tested the water to see if it posed a hazard to swimmers.

what do you expect from all the high rise condos/hotels being built. They never think of all the extra sewage that will/is being created. All they do is build.....build ....build.....!!

  • That's the way to attract families to the world class family resort.

  • Falling on deaf ears.....rather spend money on submarines than infrastructure/environment

I am not sure which is worse, the foul water running onto the beach and into the sea, or the so called educated health officials walking in it....????

Yes world class family holiday destination, imagine taking say Junior aged 10 and we will call the daughter Missy,8,there.

Stroll down to the beach front in the evening ,the waft of human waste peremates the balmy evening air, then you can take the kids to walking street, maybe stop off in soi bukaow for a drink in a lady boy bar.

Next morning you hit the beach, junior comes up and says "Dad,i found a lobster, but it's kind of brown and squidgy, yes i am sure a holiday such as this would linger long in the family memory.

The town planners should be held responsible for affecting tourism.  Almost every tourist who has seen the state of the beach and the ocean at Pattaya and around the corner at Jom Tien, lets their friends and colleagues know to avoid the place.

On my last trip there a year ago, the water was a mass of floating plastic, condoms, shredded toilet paper.  The standard of hygiene is beyond belief.

I ended up having a skin rash treated by a skin specialist.

All build , build, build and not one thought goes into the Infrastructure of developing a City such as Pattaya and its surroundings.

Its not just the the brown stuff you would expect flowing down the sewers of Patts, but also a whole load of brown paper from discarded envelopes.

What you see and smell is corruption in action.

All the monies the Central Government has made out of both Pattaya & Phuket & they

still cannot fund simple sewerage treatment for the "safety" of tourists.

It is called Greed

but, in fact, part of Pattaya’s overburdened sewage system.

part of the solution is to own your mistakes, shortcomings and limitations.

This statement is probably the most honest admittance by the management in recent years.

Now back to the drawing board!!!

tested?! :cheesy:

I don't get what part of the sewer needs to be tested

Nothing they can do?  What a crock.   Get to work!  Make it a priority, budget the money, and get it done.

It's good as it is. why swim around in sewage. There are many nice swimming pools around Pattaya

Come on people. Stop moaning. We have a new Mayor. His family have had big influence over Cholburi and Pattaya for years. He will sort it out.☺️

A case in point: 2 weeks ago, a much frequented Bar near Soi Yamato/ 2nd road. The storm-drains there are covered with some sort of tailor-made "carpets". After a heavy overnight downpour the "carpet" slipped and diden't fully cover the drain anymore.

Me, sitting down at the Bar immediately noticed that there is the smell of feces in the air. I casually mentioned this to one of the employees. She solved the problem in a very pragmatic way: She softly took my hand and dragged me to the other end of the Bar, away from the drain. She also mentioned something to the effect "why do you sit down where it stinks and then complain about it?".
TIT and all part of a Premier Beach Resort, I suppose.
Cheers.

The brown eye delivers another black eye!

I believe these carpets are placed by i.e. the retail store owner or the eatery there to minimize the stink coming out of the sewage so their customers can hang around the business.

The inadequate infrastructure problems of Pattaya have begun to destroy the City and its beaches and have reached to the point of serious health hazard.

There is a giant and dangerous "monster" underneath the city and it shows its presence every-time it rains.

officials and people are puzzled as far as what more to do.

Billions have been poured in without a result.

When people like me  write about the issues and point fingers at officials, some of our posts are immediately removed for being off-topic.

These opinionated posts should be left alone as part of the solution.they certainly are not the root cause of the problem

Walked 100 metres back to my car through swirling turds.  I carried my shoes & disinfected my feet at home. The car stinks of poo.

are YOU SURE ????!!!

The sewer is not even the biggest problem.  The water supply is a much bigger problem.  Especially in Jomtien.  They have been lucky the last few years with a decent amount of rain.  That's not always going to be the case.  Every time there is a water shortage it gets worse.

I used to live in Patts at the top of khao Talo, and the water supply was definately unhealthy all year round, irrespectivwe of rainfall.

When the faucet was turned on, and even left running for several minutes, the water was not cvlearr, and resembled a weak green tea in colour.

When the large underground storage tank ( 2000 L ) had a problem, and the cover was removed OMG ! the sides of the tank had a thick slimy deposit similar to Oil all over the sides.

Disgusting, and not even healthy for a shower IMO

I had a store owner tell me it also helps eliminate mosquitoes.
