An Omani man married to a Thai woman didn't last one day back in Thailand visiting his wife in her hometown in the country's north east.

Sixty two year old Ari was on the back of his Thai wife's Honda Wave going out to celebrate his visit to the village in Ban Kut Khao Pun, Muang district of Nakhon Phanom.

A Honda City car driven by 27 year old drunkard Thanet plowed into the back of the couple on their way to a restaurant.

When police arrived with rescue teams they found the Omani man lying dead in a pool of blood.

His wife Chamaiporn, 39, is in a critical condition in an Nakhon Phanom hospital.

Police said that Thanet registered as having 220 mg of blood in his system, several times over the limit.

They said he was not only drunk but speeding.

He has been detained.

The police confirmed the Omani husband had that very day arrived in the north east to visit his wife's hometown.

As with every unnecessary death, very sad. The drunken idiot is a prime candidate for a murder charge, which I hope the police will actually hit him with. 220mg isn't drunk, rather paralytic. The message needs to go out that if you drive in that condition, the consequences will be a very, very long time in jail. Until this happens the drink driving death rate will remain pretty constant.

I agree 100% but would like to add that it should be investigated where and with who the person was drinking, and if they knowingly failed to prevent him driving they should be held criminally liable as well.

Poor folks ... thai law and law enforcement needs to change drastically ... oh look! Is that a pig flying by ?????!!!!!!

manslaughter and 15 years would be appropriate.

duesnt a charge or murder necessitate premeditation and forethought for it to be murder?

Should face a manslaughter charge for the death of Ari... with a sentence pending for the injured wife!

Time to get tough with drunk drivers!

before posting should revised spelling and content to avoid misunderstandings,,,,one can not live with 220mg of blood in the system, I am sure it means 220mg of alcohol in the blood

And then there may have only been enough room for 220mg of blood, the balance being booze.

Villages are full of drunken hillbillies. You couldn't pay me enough to live in one.

I live out in the sticks, though not in a village, don't ride a bike any more - yes you are correct, I drive through a lot of small villages regularly, if the motorbike in front is driving like he is drunk it is usually because he is! be it 10am or 4pm, see it often, now I just think, "not another" generally worse close to temples!
