Thaksin crossing into new territories

That Thaksin Shinawatra will not hold his birthday party this year could have been dismissed as immaterial, but for the fact that there are other intriguing “signals” as well. The Pheu Thai Party, for the first time, is having a leadership structure that is not focused entirely on his clan; his key strategists seem to be retreating from view; and those who strategically left to join the now-dissolved Thai Raksa Chart Party have not returned.

 

All point toward what has become the political question of the hour: Is Thaksin washing his hand of Pheu Thai, or even politics entirely?

 

Apart from the aforementioned “signs”, there is the mammoth issue of constitutional amendment, which will be harder for pro-change politicians to push for if he is seen as pulling the strings. And yet there is something else as well: the next Bangkok gubernatorial election, in which a Pheu Thai candidate will benefit more from his “absence” than “presence”.

A man yielding immense power and wealth, the one thing he would dearly love to do and he can't or won't, the step on Thai soil and meet family, friend and supporters, and always on his guards from who knows whom might want to hurt him, is it all worth it, the power and wealth but to be cut out from everything you love?...

With riches like that, instead of enjoying golden years of his life with friends and family, he pursues politics....for the sake of power and ego.

he dropped from the first 10 of the most rich in thailand. So there are richer than him, and that many times.

his party won the election, yet was not allowed to form government, so those 10 richer than him do have much more combined power, than him.

 

now, after swearing of the government, the king is the head of state - that's according to new constitution 

Penthouse politics are in every corner of the earth will eventually end badly ????

No! He is solely interested in the well being of all Thai people - how could even think for one minute it is about power and ego.

Much can be said about the men in charge now ... The man in diapers leading is the epitome of power hungry and ego person (can't call him a politician).

So what do other rich people do in their old age? (eg The Walmart king). My perception - but what would I know? - is that they keep doing the things they've done all their lives, stoking the fires of wealth & ego.

With all that wealth stashed away, not just his but the whole clan, you'd think so.

 

But I guess that self entitled arrogance and planet size ego won't let him. Classic example of someone believing their own propaganda and lies.

did you tell that to Prem, before he died at age of 100 and actively influencing thai politics to his last days? 

Tell that as well to all politicians, older than taksin.

PT not being allowed to form a government will definitely have further negative impact on his wealth. How sad!

He will be told to go away if his parties lose badly in the election just like Ahbisit. The formula still works when his parties keep winning.

Some how his wealth actually increase from 1.6B in 2014 to 1.8B in March 2019. Not too shabby.

He netted a pretty penny from the fake exports in the rice pledging scam.  That was worth at least B20bn shared mainly between him and the Siam Indigo shyster who also is also a fugitive from justice.  He was happy to see his cronies get 40 years prison stretches for that and his sister have to flee the country too, just to make an extra few bob on top of what he had already grabbed.

Thought it was more but really without proof, who knows. Don’t the junta will love to have your evidence to confiscate his assets and they will not accused of fabricating the case.

If you want to emulate the Suharto clan in Indonesia or the Marcos clan in Pilipinas and don't succeed, then you have a problem.

He made his own bed, sleep in it.

He made enough trouble and damage for Thailand, and let's not forget the 2000+ deaths of so-called drug dealers.

I got a theory that the government artificially strengthened the Baht so that his wealth is dramatically reduced in local peanuts currency,

In doing so broke 2 Political Party laws in source of funding and outside influence which the NACC will normally intensify their diligence to nail him. Nothing so far,

Unfortunately, not all those exterminated at his directive were dealers, never were dealers and not potential dealers - it seems many personal scores were settled under the guise of the drug clean-up, all to no avail of course - just increased the turn over of others, many who were undertaking the clean-up. 

I don’t’  think any of you know his wealth, he still sees his family, I personally wouldn’t worry about him. He’s good where he is.

He has complete freedom of movement except within Thailand, and plenty of money. He can meet people anywhere he likes, and see his family anytime. I’m sure he’s not too sad.

Don't forget to factor in the "loss of face" to someone like him it is an insurmountable insult to be denied access to Thailand, his loss of position in Royal Thai police, and stripped of his Royal entitlements. 

 

Whatever is said on here about him, if he was allowed back he'd still win a free and fair election so he must appeal to some people.
