Canada's Trudeau condemns Trump attacks: 'That is not how we do things'

OTTAWA (Reuters) - Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday added his voice to those condemning an attack by U.S. President Donald Trump against four minority Democratic congresswomen, saying "that is not how we do things in Canada."

 

Trump on Monday defended his comments, saying he was not concerned if people thought his tweets were racist. The four hated the United States, he told reporters.

 

"I think Canadians and indeed people around the world know exactly what I think about those particular comments. That is not how we do things in Canada," Trudeau told a televised news conference in Petawawa, Ontario.

 

"A Canadian is a Canadian is a Canadian, and the diversity of our country is in fact one of our greatest strengths ... and we will continue to defend that."

 

Tusk, Trudeau condemn Trump comments

European Council President Donald Tusk and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Thursday condemned the comments that U.S. President Donald Trump made about four democratic lawmakers who are women of color and the "send her back" chants made about Somali-born Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar at Trump's rally in North Carolina on Wednesday. Rough Cut (no reporter narration).

European Council President Donald Tusk on Thursday said that he felt at home in Montreal because there was no one shouting "send him back" during a news conference of the European Union-Canada Summit in Montreal.

Tusk and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau denounced comments made by President Donald Trump who made comments directed toward four democratic lawmakers who are women of color saying they should "go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came."

On Wednesday night during a campaign rally, Trump went on an extended rant about the lawmakers, saying they were welcome to leave the country if they did not like his policies on issues such as immigration and defending Israel. The crowd began chanting "Send her back!"

Tusk added "if you feel that something is totally unacceptable, you have to react despite business, despite interest from me values are much more important than trade. Sorry, maybe, maybe I'm old fashioned maybe but I will never change my my opinion here."

Trudeau said the comments were "hurtful, wrong and completely unacceptable."

All four lawmakers - Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan - are U.S. citizens. Three were born in the United States.

Trudeau and Tusk held talks on the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).

 

Canada, a country of 36 million, has traditionally prided itself on being one of the most diverse nations on earth. Every year it sets immigration targets approximating to roughly 1% percent of the population.

 

Earlier in the day, a British government spokesman said Prime Minister Theresa May felt Trump's language in the tweets was "completely unacceptable".

 

Trudeau's relations with Trump have improved steadily since June 2018, when the U.S. president called him "very dishonest and weak." Last month the two men held what Canadians officials described as positive meeting in the White House.

Obvious nonsense. The question isn't about turning the other cheek. The question is would Trudeau have told Canadian citizens critical of him to back to where they came from. Is there any indication in any of Trudeau's public or private statements that this is the sort of thing he would have done.

At least the USA is trying to defend its southern border. Trudeau is allowing thousands of illegals to enter Canada unrestricted.Look up Roxham Rd...They enter the US and make a beeline for the CDN/US border where the RCMP helps them with their luggage! They automatically are eligible to receive housing ( hotels) welfare,medical and a host of other benefits until they get an immigration hearing.( years of backlogs) All this on the taxpayers dime ( mine) No end in sight and very little reaction from the naive citizens.

Diversity is only beneficial up to a point, then it becomes a weakness as it leads to internal divisions (see the connection between diversity and division?).  Humans always push everything until it breaks - that seems to be fundamental to human nature. Trump is just trying to fix the broken system.

In any case, 'racism' has more to do with boredom than hatred - people want to be surrounded by those who laugh at the same jokes. Seems perfectly reasonable.

If Trump wanted to fix the problem he would have his Justice Dept start criminally charging employers of illegals. The so call problem would fix itself in weeks. It won't happen because the business lobby would freak out. Just like when the Junta threatened it in Thailand.

When I applied for citizenship I don't remember being asked about any travel I may or may not have done. Then again one does not need to travel to Thailand for acupuncture or Thai massage. Also one does not need to travel to Thailand to pay for a happy ending. One can pay for one of those in Vancouver.

According to your earlier post, his application was shelved because "they suspected him of being a sex tourist."

 

That may have been an unfair assumption, but I don't see how it's in any way racist.

 

Again, based on your post it was only his lawyer who made references to him being white and that wasn't until after his application was put on hold.

 

Also, even assuming there was a standard definition of what a feminist is (there isn't) how do you know the people who processed his application were "feminists"?

Trudeau has embarrassed Canadians in the last four years, notably by his absurd "Indian" dresswear in India.  He looked such a total nitwit it is strange the SJWs did not accuse him of "cultural appropriation" (another branch of "racism").

Worst of all he has nobody around him who could have told him that the arrest of the Huawei heiress was going to cost Canada very dear (ask Canadian hog farmers!).  His Cabinet walked blindly into a trap set by Trump to minimise the damage suffered by American farmers by his own trade war with the Chinese.

The Trudeauites could easily have got in touch with the airline she was on and told her to stay on board and simply carry on to Mexico City.  Problem solved, but little Trudeau wanted to please Uncle Donald.
