Why you want to come live in Thailand?

It was for employment and adventure in my case. I figured a break from shoveling snow in the winter wouldn't be a bad perk either for a while. ????

I had many good years there, felt proud of the contributions I made to the country through my employment and volunteer work and have fond memories of Thailand, but I have no desire to live there again. Like many others, I will be moving to one of Thailand's neighbors instead but possibly dropping in occasionally to catch up with friends.

Dear Yinn. I've just written my (true) story why I'm here.

BTW, I can make good Somtham, we even had a Somtham competition in Ubon R. with Transam ( a nice bloke) with his wife and my wife. But they won, I guess they bribed them!

I've been in Ranong a couple of times, but that was many moons ago. People usually go there for a visa run to Myanmar.

There'll be the day when we meet each other and we can have a long chat about Farang and Thai, okay?

In the end, we are not different, some are good and some are bad.

Same goes for your folks. There are good and bad people in every nation.

I've got to go to get your Somtham ready........Cheers. Chock Dee...:wai:

I not know you live in Phangnga before!

And go to Ranong!!!!!!!!

Maybe you will be POTY. (Not important but funny if win)

good luck.

I traveled to India after graduation from university and spent six months there and another month in Sri Lanka.

I couldn't understand why people who had almost nothing were smiling all day long, friendly and happy with their lives. Some people in my country had "the problem" not to know what else they could buy because they already had all they wanted?!?

I've been in many European countries, in North Africa, in South America, but SEA, in general, gave me the best feeling to settle down.

I'll never forget my first holiday in Thailand 23 years ago, and I came to LOS whenever I could take time off.

After my mom passed away in my arms, I sold the house and came to Thailand.

I've had some girlfriends in the beginning, but couldn't communicate in Thai.

I then met my wife, who's working at a hotel in Khao Lak when I wasn't looking for love/sex. I was so sad after my mom passed away and tried to get over it.

She couldn't speak English, my Thai was very limited, but something happened, also called love, and we married after living one year together.

Fortunately, did we leave Phang Nga, one month later the Tsunami hit Baan Naam Khem so hard that many of our friends got killed.

I'd planned to buy a house there and perhaps the move to Isaan had saved our lives.

So we settled down where she grew up in Isaan. We traveled a lot through Thailand but finally decided to stay in the lower northeast.

Then 15 years ago, I took on a job and started teaching English. I love my job, the kids like me, and I'm happy with my life, my job and life in general here.

My parents in law don't see me as an Alien because I can talk to them in their slang and we love each other.

People in the village respect me because I worked hard on the rice fields when I lived in the village.

Should put above on POTY. Positive REAL story.

Because Thai TV soap operas aren't available any where else.

Thai soap operas are watched and popular in all over Asia, in some countries in S. America, Europe and in Africa... basic in all around the world.

Yinn,

Not sure so far if I will vote for you.

I remember your posts in the "Farang" thread, claiming that what you were thinking was representative of the majority of the Thai people.

I challenged you about this by mentioning your were very young but already arrogant.

Not so long ago, on the question I asked how much you thought Thai people were thinking like yourself, you answered by a figure of 0,00.....

So don't know how honest you really are.

Or/and if maybe if you were joking, when do we know if you are joking or not, when you give us your opinions or answer a post.

Ok, thankyou that you remember my post.

i understand your point.

You are correct.

Maybe some things most Thai would agree. Some things most not agree (political)

Nobody in the world agree with Yinn 100%. Some maybe 90%, some maybe 5%.

No problem not vote for Yinn. Up to you think.

Happy New Year same.

Never think you know what other people really think.

Better in the future you start with :

"It is my opinion that....."

Of course your opinion has as much value than any other one.

But unless you can actually prove something, an opinion is, and remains, an opinion.

You have my vote.

Thankyou. Only one point different now.

”IMO” and “generally speaking”.

You are correct.

Thankyou.

There is one major reason to be here. The Thai women are comfortable manifesting the dignity within femininity. They are comfortable being women. How refreshing is that? They do not want to be men! Flirting here is not illegal and is not frowned upon. I have 23 year old waitresses who are friendly and smile at me. In the US I feel like a radioactive man contaminated with a disease, because I am over 50!

Access to great Thai food that does not break the bank. A house rental of $300 a month, instead of $3,300 a month. A visit from an electrician for 500 baht, instead of $150. A visit to a good hospital to see a specialist for 2000 baht. Not $300 plus. People who are pleasant and light hearted, and not bitter, disappointed, unfulfilled, very divided and disenfranchised.

Shall I go on? I could go on for days.

Come on Mike.

Should 50+ year old's be hanging around with 23 year old's anywhere?

Is everything in life predicated on sex and picking up twinkies young enough to be your daughter?

Do you want to have a 23 year old daughter marrying a 50, 60, 70 year old?

You know in America and other first world countries it is not normal behavior.

In Thailand financial necessity changes all that but doesn't make it right.

Really who wants to eat Thai food ALL the time?

You can find a place to rent in America for $300 a month if you want to live in redneckville or some remote part of America.

Sure services are more expensive but you get what you pay for. One look at all the jumbled up telephones lines in Thailand tells you about how good the electricians are.

There are also lots of unpleasant people in Thailand. Crime everyday in the news.

For you my friend, I think it all comes down to income. All of your posts are concerned with the lost cost of things in Thailand.

I suspect if you won the lottery and became a Millionaire or had a huge income, you would no longer live in Thailand and would find somewhere else to live.

I'm one of those financially fortunate enough to live wherever I want/am allowed to. Can't speak for others but for a single, wealthy and healthy male who wants to have many young, beautiful girlfriends (with "normal" jobs) and the freedom to travel continuously around the country in safety and in his own vehicle, then Thailand wins hands-down.

you cant get girlfriends anywhere else?

Try traveling around the 3 provinces in the south and let us all know how that works out?

Who doesn't own a car in Thailand or multiple cars?

Yes, have girlfriends in a number of western countries... really nice ladies and I enjoy their company, just a shame they're twice the age and weight of my thai girlfriends.

Haven't yet been to the 3 provinces in the south and no intention of doing so.

Thailand allows foreigners to own cars, not all countries do.

I actually did that.  I didn't drive my car though.  I rode my bicycle.  Started when I got off the train in Surat Thani.  Then I rode east to the ferry piers to Koh Samui and turned right and followed the coast south to Nahkorn Sri Thammarat.  Continued south passing Songkhla, Pattani, and Narathiwat.  I then rode back up north but veered NW to Yala.  Made my way up to Had Yai and then over to Trang.  From Trang I cycled up to Koh Lanta and then on to Krabi.  I then rode to Phuket but only as far as the airport and flew back to my home in Bangkok.  It was a fun trip and didn't rain that much even though it was late May early June.  Never had a problem and I didn't even have a flat the whole way!  Memorable moments:  Cycling early in the mornig in Pattani by a Muslim girls school.  About 20-30 8-10 year olds all ran out to the road and were waving at me with big smiles.  Getting the very last ferry on to Koh Lanta and riding down the island looking for a place to stay.  Being off season everything was closed.  A couple of Thai guys in a  pickup truck told me to follow them as there was a place I could stay.  Got there and met the owner who was building some Thai style wooden bungalows on the beach.  He spoke almost perfect English as he had studied for a PhD in the USA.  Wouldn't take any money for staying there or even for breakfast in the morning.

I've had an interest in Buddhism since my late teens and, when I first moved to Thailand, looked forward to living amongst Buddhists. I can't tell you how dissappointed I've been. Although I'm a life long atheist, I'm sure that I live my life according to Buddhist philosophy far more than most Thais.

Would point out, females reproducing with the strongest (or most powerful) males for food, housing and protection is entirely natural. The natural world doesn't provide welfare (or police).

It's the west that has become an abnormal place and reversed the laws of nature..
