Thaivisa exclusive: Indian entertainment moguls plan to open "Nana Plaza" style Go-Go venue in Pattaya

PaNa.jpg

An Indian owned entertainment group plans to revolutionize Pattaya's nightlife entertainment scene with the opening of a huge new complex slap bang in the middle of the city.

Baku Group have told Thaivisa that they have rented The Avenue on Pattaya 2nd Road for nine years.

Their complex will be closely modeled on Bangkok's famed Nana Plaza that rose to prominence in the capital through the 1990s.

It will be called "Avenue Plaza" and is set to open its doors to the public at the end of March 2020.

Advertising online calls the new complex "Pattaya's answer to Nana" and boasts that it will put "the beat into the heart of Pattaya" and represents Baku Group's "biggest and newest project to date".

Behind the project is Indian born owner "Sean" who outlined the developments to date in a telephone call this morning with Thaivisa.

At present the Avenue has a variety of restaurants and other outlets. There is a McDonalds out front. It lies on 2nd Road in a prominent location between the central Pattaya and south Pattaya roads.

Sean said that there are 39 units and that 17 have already been allocated. Twenty two more are up for grabs. Unit sizes are from 70 up to 400 square meters.

Sean said that he is an Indian national who has lived in Thailand for four years. He has a work permit and everything he is doing is above board and legal. His advertisement online under the name "Scott Griffiths" promises "no dreaded key money".

"Rents are less than a quarter of the cost at Nana Plaza," said Sean. "No way will anyone else go anywhere but here". He said that the location is great and there is plenty of parking at Avenue.

He said that everything was going to be set up legally and professionally.

"The Grand Opening will be on March 31st 2020", he said.

Thaivisa pressed him about the timing of such a venture, especially in the light of stories about the death of Pattaya as a nightime entertainment venue.

He dismissed such talk as just "negativity".

Thaivisa understands that Baku Group have made other acquisitions in areas such as Walking Street.

It looks as though the Indian owned group are planning to change the Pattaya landscape as more and more people from the sub-continent come to Thailand, notes Thaivisa.

In other stories Indian tourists have been hailed as the "last hope" for Pattaya.

Yes, the taste is far different. There is an Indian Club in BKK Soi Nana called Bad Shah, their "coyotes" really are canines.

With all the screeching about the Pattaya sex industry pro and con, perhaps this business plan would be better served by repurposing some of the now less frequented venues in the more shady area.

He will regret his decision sooner or later, like so many, even legit industries. LOS ain't that simple to navigate. MS>

Hahaha, what a laugh, the Indians are truly moving in!!!!

theyl be taking over soon. 2-3-4-5 guys splitting bar fines, sharing drinks, curry stalls out front. Pattaya- little calcutta????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Charter flights, walking 6- abreast down the streets. They can't fill the bars now, another 39 bars- gogos. Pattaya is turning into a circus.

I do hope he has ordered a bulk quantity of brown envelopes. Only way this has a chance of working.

It will be most interesting to see the reaction of the authorities if this actually brings tourists back, at which point they would have to accept that it was their actions which caused such a significant downturn in tourism in town to start with. That family friendly resort thing just isn't bringing in the crowds after all, is it?

Tell that to the Indians who own Nana Plaza.

They probably know how to deal with the special environment. Good they bring some action to Avenue. MS>

I love the comments of the super successful guys in this forum. They made millions of Dollars in their lifes and know it for sure so much better than these Indian loser. ????

Okay I am a little confused.  between south and central is a large area.  Can some of you guys narrow it down for me.

It sounds like he is trying to or going to compete with the Thais that own Walking Street.

If that is the case it might not be a bad idea.  They need to change walking street anyway it is looking more and more ike a crowded version of PatPong and soi Cowboy rolled into one thing.

If they are sucessful and the guys on waling street start to lose business then maybe they can revamp it to a family area like they planned.  Yes I am dreaming.

Who cares about a bunch of Indian bars.  They better keep Villa Market.

I withdraw my comment. Too spontaneous and generalized. We have some extremely successful Indians in Pattaya and they don't show off and are smart, educated and nice people. My assumption somebody would get blue-eyed into such a major venture was plein wrong. Have a nice day.

Having lived and worked in India, I doubt your comment. His idea of "legit" will be considerably different from yours. Indian business people are skilled in the art of palm greasing which pervades all things in India. His problem will be attracting non Indians - Westerners, Japanese, Koreans, Arabs etc to places aimed at the Indian market and therefore teeming with Indians. He needs the non Indian market as Indians won't spend enough.

I repeat my call that all TVF members pitch in a few Baht and purchase a 'home away from home' for @NCC1701A!

Given his... er... appetites, he could single-handedly save every working girl in the city!

Indeed I'm glad that you decided to step back from the rants of an ignorant, racist rabble. Indians were here long before most of the people posting here arrived in Pattaya.

Indians are also more closely related to Thailand than many of the westerners posting here. So the petty insults don't endear them to anyone, but other stupid racists.

Why is everyone assuming the target market is Indians?

Just because the owners are Indian, does not mean that is their target demographic.

As I understand it, Nana Plaza is owned by Indians, and they have been running that for a long, long time, I assume successfully, and that is not specifically targetted at any one demographic.

LK Metro was meant to replace Walking St but it's nowhere near as good. This is probably the only use of the Avenue that may work, but won't be popular with farang, which isn't the intention anyway
