There are regular disposable mask versions of the 100 class (100%) masks that don't look like something out of a cyborg movie. But they're even more expensive than the N95 (95%) class masks, and generally are harder to breath in when wearing. And probably impossible to find in Thailand right now.

I find the N95 mask to be ok, add to that that I do my best to stay away from everybody, albeit a little hard when your at your local waterhole and the bloke next to you who you know very well sneezes 19 times in 5 minutes and you aren't wearing your mask because you don't want to be made fun of...lol, or cry ?

Images from China show people with 5 liter water bottles covering their heads completely plus a mask underneath.

Way to go if you want to be safe.

Or leave the city and spend a week at a small provincial town where Chinese tourists don't go.

maybe mask smell just as important?

- depends upon your sense of priorities here...

Don't think the masks serve much purpose, from what I've read.  When used one was just breathing in 'old air" which is no good for U anyway!!

The masks are just a 'moneymaker' for 3M & others!

Ya, that's why all the medical staff dealing with real and potential coronavirus cases wear them without exception. Because they don't "serve much purpose"... :whistling:

I assume it's on the same basis as the x-ray machines at the airport - they're just there to reassure the punters

But you need to understand that the surgical type masks have the fluid barrier to stop the spread of droplets from the user.

This is just as important in preventing the spread of the disease.

So you're telling us, "You won't catch anything"... not even the airliner!

Viruses are so damn small...(much, much smaller than a bacterium) that they pass right through most of those masks like air molecules pass through mosquito netting.

Think U will find medical staff wear surgical quality masks: not the single layer flimsy masks that most people wear, that provide little or no protection what so ever!!

I've been talking all along about N95 respirator masks -- not the cheap paper drugstore variety...  After about 100 such posts here on the subject, I've given up on people who can't or won't understand the difference.  The medical staff in hospitals treating virus patients are NOT wearing the cheap paper variety, generally speaking, perhaps unless nothing else is available.

This is not an airborne virus like say a gas that is in the air and could go around non fitting masks. This virus is transmitted by flem, mucus, silava ,nasil escreations. A mask can prevent someone transfering liuid emmisions to aother as well as protecting  from getting the spray in your nose/mouth. Even glasses/sun glasses could protect you from nasil spray/cough spray from getting in your eyes. I have seen DR.s in China with plastic face shields (not goggles) that prevent nasil spray from contacting their eyes with a surgical mask underneath. (Around nose  mouth)

Also transmitted from surfaces an infected person has sneezed on which is why you should wash hands often and wipe down surfaces with alcohol.

"Ultra-fine dust mask"

Does it help against the Coronavirus?

Had a friend go to the doctors office this morning here in Arizona, USA.  3 people in the waiting room coughing their lungs out.  My friend asked the nurse, hey, how about some face masks here.  The nurse said, all you have to do is ask.  SMDH.
