Farangs who don’t wear face masks should be kicked out of Thailand says health minister

Any ‘farangs’ who do not wear face masks should be kicked out of the country, that’s according to Thailand’s health minister, Anutin Charnvirakul.

Speaking on Friday as he, along with other officials, handed out government issue face masks at BTS Siam, Mr Anutin said that those who refuse to wear masks “need to be kicked out of Thailand”.

The minister said that farangs who refuse to wear masks “don’t care about the big picture” and “they don’t have any consideration to the situation”.

Mr Anutin added that Asian tourists are all using the government issued facemasks but that Europeans are not - using a derogatory Thai tone when describing Europeans.

Mr Anutin’s outburst was made in front of a throng of waiting media, and was also shared on Twitter by Channel News Asia’s Thailand Correspondent, Saksith Saiyasombut.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organisation says it is not necessary to wear a facemask.

The advice from the World Health Organisation is as follows:

  • If you are healthy, you only need to wear a mask if you are taking care of a person with suspected 2019-nCoV infection.
  • Wear a mask if you are coughing or sneezing.
  • Masks are effective only when used in combination with frequent hand-cleaning with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
  • If you wear a mask, then you must know how to use it and dispose of it properly.

The news comes as Thailand battles to control the outbreak of coronavirus.

At the time of publishing, Thailand had reported no new cases of coronavirus. The total number of coronavirus cases in Thailand is 25, with 9 patients having already recovered and been discharged. 16 patients remain in hospital with their condition unchanged.

There have been no deaths from coronavirus in Thailand. Those diagnosed with coronavirus in Thailand have so far been Chinese or Thai nationals.

Openly showing what this government thinks of us.

  • So much wrong with what just came out of this little man's mouth. That was extremely racist and xenophobic. Very ugly to see a person of his stature in the government talking like this.    I

  • So can we file defamation charges against him now or does it only work the other way around? ????‍♂️

Why don't you wear one?

  • Popular Post

I don't wear a face mask because they are expensive and not comfortable, I wash my hands for 20s with soap ten times a day, I don't touch any railing and I certainly don't touch my face before washing my hands.

Had there been no shortage and price changes I would maybe be wearing an N95, but considering I am not coughing or sneezing at all I don't consider having a face mask one of my priorities.

I note from the picture above, that this plonker, whilst making his racist speech about not wearing face masks is in fact wearing his under his chin, and if he has contracted the virus his saliva will be spraying all over the media he is addressing!!!!!

I'm guessing some 'white people' said no when he offered them a mask. I'm guessing they may have refused to be in a picture. He's obviously lost face and just let words come out of his mouth in a fit of anger.

He asked Thai people to help kick out foreigners who don't wear masks. Let that sink in. A man who said this virus is like a common cold, who said stopping people coming in from mainland China won't make a difference, a man who's been seen in pictures with people who were ill not wearing a mask - has the audacity to tell people to help roundup people who don't accept his crappy masks and kick them out.

This man is one of the top men helping run this country. God help Thailand.

Idiocy, incompetence and xenophobia at best. Maybe the one who should be kicked out of country should be him. And his whole lot.

this is actually a back track from when he initially floated the idea of a temporary ban on VOA's for people arriving from mainland China.

I think that I would prefer to follow advice from medical experts such as the World Health Organisation rather than this ignorant little man

Exactly.  Not sure why he's singling out farangs.  If he had mentioned Chinese people, might make a bit of sense (but still overkill).

This place is becoming a BIGGER joke everyday.

The man is just an a++e, spouting off about face masks, while his is below his chin, sputtering mist over everyone in front of him.

This is correct. VERY many Farangs do not use a mask. Are they too stupid or immortal? And as hard as it might sound - such ignorant and naive tourists pose a danger to others in Thailand.

I thought that was crash helmets, copying the locals....????

This man has a few screw lose in his head. So he opened the windows, let the mosquitos for get into the room, instead of closing the window. Then blame the people inside it's because of them the mosquitos are there. Thai people just hate him. I was keeping my feelings neutral, but it's slowly changing. Maybe I should spend my money somewhere else. Sad for the Thai people who mean it good.

  • Popular Post

also, isnt he an engineer by trade. How is he qualified to be a health Minister. the more i think about this, the more mental it is.

Xenophobia is alive and well in the Thai government. Heaven forbid they dare criticise their Chinese overlords!

It is highly amusing that -

1: This virus will further spread in Thailand due to their incompetence

2: He isn't wearing a mask himself

3: No westerner in Thailand has had the virus (only Chinese and Thais)

4: I guess he didn't understand WHO's recent press release in English about masks not being a necessary prevention

Utterly embarrassing on so many levels by this simpleton.

I take it that includes immigration officials at the airport too, who, according to a post in another topic claimed they weren't wearing them.

Wouldn't that make them stateless?

  • Popular Post

Unbelievable! Where does all this hatred come from?

I understand when people talk in the kitchen, but this is on a government level. I'm speechless.

I think I must be. I went to Central Festival without a mask and am still alive.

Obviously immortal.
