immigration officers have proudly posed for photos next to a Belgium man just arrested on overstay.

proud?

They should be ashamed for their mercenary work and for the procedures of their office hitting the low,  harmless and poor targets instead of the real ones.

They are not doing a good service to their country. They are useless - but proud? OMG

I feel sorry for the poor man.

But the duty of IOs is to catch foreigners breaking the visa rules. They are not to blame.

Hopefully the Belgian has enough funds to buy his ticket out of this country without rotting in the IDC hell hole too long.

These "admin" crimes and the fanfair they make with these photo ops is sickening. Whats next cruising hospitals and the terminally ill, sorry, but they should put their resources and efforts into real criminals and those that impact society NOT someone whose paperwork is wrong etc. Thats all it is, an admin crime and there we have 3 officers for an admin issue, pathetic.

Glorifying their capture in the media is incredibly embarrassing for all involved, I would have thought, but it seems in LOS any "look at me" by folk doing a job is the way to go...Sadly..????

You have got to be kidding me.  I am not aware of any country in the world where immigration officers proudly stand for a photo shoot with their arrested elderly victim along with his walker.  This practice should be an embarrassment to the Thai government but apparently they encourage it. ????

Probably something passed down from the Japanese to the Thais in World War II. Humiliate the Whites and show them who is on top, now.

They must be really proud of themselves well done chaps! Personally I would have opted out of the photo shoot.

Sorry to say, but low hanging fruit like this guy is their level.

Catching proper criminals is beyond them, especially when they most of them are either on the payroll to look the other way or are the actual criminals themselves.

We are plumbing new depths daily in this country, all endorsed and encouraged by those running the circus.

We're not blaming them for doing their job. We are castegating them for being a bunch of cretins that have to report this nonsense and brag about... and further suggest we are happier and safer because of it.

It is part of the "Brave New World" 4.0.

Promotion and self promotion through Facebook et al. Especially prevalent in govt. institutions.

My (unanswered) question is where does this approach take society. No debate, no questions, no opinions; only checkboxes and affirmative replies.

Even the lemmings are smart enough to stop before they reach the cliff edge.

Bet they post that picture on their personal FB page to impress their friends.

Yea but did they have to make a poster and use for pr what next a film?

85 overstay is a flagrant flouting of the rules.

However I suspect the photo op is their way

of advertising the fact in the media that the

rules have to be followed. Scary news travels.

My mate is bedridden but managed to follow

the rules. No rules and there would be chaos.

At the moment we have no idea of how he is,

lets hope he is given fair treatment.

He was easy to spot with plastic still on the frame. He was obviously pretending to be Thai.

I wonder if they had a hard time arresting him.  Looks like the very dangerous type.  Must have needed at least 10 officers to take him down  The look like a proud bunch of troopers.

Hey, those zimmer frames are hollow and can carry quite the load of illegal drugs.  I would recommend they search it immediately.

They could just visit my condo complex any day of the week and arrest dozens of illegal AirBnB stayers.

If Chinese-exempt

The country is in desperate times, and I his will help?  At least he’s spending money here, but he’s not Chinese.  I hope they checked the frame for explosives

Wow, did they catch him without the smart BMW? Fantastic job by all. This zimmer-framed danger to the whole of Thailand is now under arrest and we can all feel safe and sleep in our beds at night.

Meanwhile; the real criminals continue to walk the corridors of Government House !

"Ah..got you at last Mr Zimmer!"

"I've been framed!"

China has stopped organised tours but many Chinese with funds are still coming to Thailand on VOR, keen to escape the virus. They probably will want extensions.

Will they be granted if over the limit? Will we be seeing the smart car targeting Chinese? Maybe not.

This is starting to get scary - they must feel so proud. Even if he is on overstay the object seems to be hunt Farang AT ANY COST AND ALL THIS WHILST TOURISM IS GOING TITS UP- I really hope this comes back to haunt them, they deserve it

85 days overstay for this guy. He must be spending at least 1200 baht a day on accommodation, food, drinks, transport, medicines, doctors/hospital visits etc - that's 102,000 baht that Thailand is better off.

how the heck did you come up with that... if he had that much money at his disposal then him being an illegal would mean he is a mental moron to overstay.  Even when caught I am sure that much funds at his fingertips could have greased the wheels of justice.

Well he I doubt he was living under a bridge and eating out of the bins.

Well, I qualify... and yet my monthly expenses don't exceed 20,000 baht / month (keeps accumulating in bank)...  that includes a 3 bedroom house in a gated community, electricity for AC, food... no I do not go dumpster diving...  I just don't have anything I need or want to spend money on right now.
