Democracy seems to come in many forms.  But to many people freedom is an inaliable right and democracy is the Result of having freedom.  These Should be worn together like epilettes on a shirt.   Here in Thailand the people haven't had many opportunities to wear the epilettes together.  For a time one has been tenuous and now the other perceived to be stolen.  What is a fair minded citizen to do?  Well the answer is simple: Every d@m thing they can to right the wrongs,  by fair means or foul.

They should be quick I expect they will be stopped by authorities very soon due to Covid19 from today they can afficialy stop any public gatherings but the PM has to give the order.
I think it would be wrong to use the Covid19 situation as an excuse to stop the protests.
If they do so they should stop all public gatherings.

well said. remember the Red Shirts in Bangkok ? They were allowed to protest and disrupt Bangkok for weeks. Being allowed to protest, not what they expected and wanted. In the end tired of waiting for an excuse, they just started themselves and burned down Central and some other places.

Hmmm, great alternative, lets vote and fight for another billionaire who will toss us a few peanuts while stuffing his own pockets.

And like all these protests for "democracy" the protesters have zero consideration that their "protests" disrupt the economy scares away tourists and busineses and if they think yr busines is not in line with them they wont hesitate to smash the place.

Anticipate nexus between the "Academic Front" and PTP supporters (not the Party leaders) when the penny drops and they realise that FFP and the students were/are doing it for them as well.

But never forget the general waiting in the wings, who is the son of a ruthless general who was the main man in a coup when unarmed youngsters protested in Soi Aree, Bkk, his soldiers shot down and killed 200 young civilians, trucks took their dead bodies away quickly and those bodies have never been found. 

 

And don't forget the guy in the wings and the PM are not friendly, plus the army factions they come from severely dislike each other.

 

Wouldn't be surprised to see the general in the wings step in trying to make further rules about preventing the spread of the virus.

 

Combine all of that with growing student protests in regard to justice and democracy, wow...

I for one wouldnt be keeping many assets other than the bare minimum in Thailand if you can swing it. If you are "stuck", register with your embassy and buy gold.

 

It only took a couple of winters in Thailand (and a bit of reading) for me to realise how close to the edge the country was.

 

It had/has all the ingredients required for what's coming.

 

The major reason I have been so reticent about "investing" in Thailand.

 

But now that it's at the precipice I have mixed feelings about leaving on the 1st April (assuming the lid stays on until then).

 

A part of me wants to be part of what's coming.

I hope my comment will not make you cross George, but there are huge numbers of older people in this land who admire these students for taking a stand, as their predecessors did in 1973,'76 & '92.  

Many will be prepared to stand alongside them, while the wise heads in the government decide their next move. Let's hope cooler heads prevail in the response to these demonstrations.

Another billionaire doesn't mean another dictator. Leave Thailand poor as it always was,  just go home and enjoy your dictator there and leave politics to Thais. After endless coups and rigged constitutions, Thailand needs a change, not you.
