Prayut: I am in charge of this mission

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said today that Thailand has reached a turning point in its fight against the coronavirus pandemic and he is now in charge of “every aspect” of his government’s efforts to combat the deadly virus.

He said the state of emergency, which will take effect starting after midnight of Wednesday, is necessary to deal with what he described as the worsening situation.

“From this point on I will be in charge of the mission to stop the spread of the virus. And I will report the progress directly to the people,” he said in an address to the country this afternoon.

Prayut appealed for public cooperation in complying with the series of measures introduced by the government, especially the stay at home directive.    He said more stringent measures will soon be imposed under the special executive power granted by the state of emergency decree he has invoked.

Prayut did not spell out specific measures that will be imposed but said they will be announced in stages.

“We will fight the pandemic together and together we will triumph,” he said.

So Prayut says he is in charge !! Gawd help us then.

  • Could be worse; he could have put Anutin in charge with Prawit as number 2!   But I think we all expected the beloved leader to take full control!

A lot of people packing up today, including my Pad Thai lady to go back home ???? I guess when you don't know what awaits with these "stringent measures" its easy to think 'let it pass' by returning to the village for a few weeks... counter to the actual advice and intent of restrictions

I hope he takes FULL responsibility if it all goes out of control.

Probably not, he is used to passing on the blame to others, in any situation.

I feel so much better, knowing HE's in charge now....

PS - looking like a bit of dark circles under the eyes...

Would anyone expect anything less from the Minister for everything when it suits him ?

At least everybody that is left after the total catastrophe, know who to blame. Yeah, if he is left that will say. :cheesy:

Triumph!!!

Compared to the same MoPH daily report from a week ago on Tuesday, March 17 vs. Tuesday, March 24:

The total number of hospitalized PUI rose from 2457 to 5357, up 118%

So what, he's going to wait until the midnight hour to announce the restrictions that are supposed to start at midnight ?

And if he announces that the provinces will be locked down and roads blocked, do you think there will suddenly be a mass exodus of people trying to get home, hoping to get there before the barricades go up ? (An even larger exodus than what has already happened.)

Especially if they know they could be stuck (wherever) for a month. Or more.

that's it.... enough said, move on

"Prayut did not spell out specific measures that will be imposed but said they will be announced in stages"

So the time is still not right for the much anticipated, Decisive Action.

It's a cultural thing, they ALL do it!

The government, in due course and after careful consideration, acted promptly.

why are restaurants still serving sitting customers ?

It should be takeaway or delivery not sitting in restaurant

Bars closed why restaurant stay open ??????????????

First priority....... for wing and a Prayut Team Thailand.

BMW immigration smart car teams will now be issued with full Hazmat suits to catch the pesky overstayers who refused to risk infection at packed immigration offices.

Expect late night troop movement and blockades set up by early morn of 26th.....think about it, if he tells everyone right now about inter provincial travel ban.......They've done it before.

My condolences Thailand.

Can he stop sending 12 people around to check my temperature every day and huddle in for a photo then? I'm trying to self-quarantine for 2 weeks.
