I wonder how many Thais grasp the subtle irony of the situation where the people they were sucking up to the most are the very same people who have destroyed their livelihoods ?

And to rub salt into the wounds, maybe the very same people they end up working for, when all this is over.

Yeah recovery for Pattaya 2021 which is when tourists start coming after vaccination

I think when all this is over, most people won't have spare cash for a vacation, many will probably still busy in trying to find a new job and pay off debts...

I think when this is almost all over you will see the sudden rise of Government owned casinos. The law will be changed to allow this and the Chinese will be allowed in visa free.If anyone will travel to gamble it is the Chinese.Look at Macau !

I agree.

Probably look to the 2021 / 2022 high season for signs of recovery here.

Germany is not post peak. The single largest measure being used to combat the virus in Germany is testing 500,000 people a week. Germany is testing half a million people every week.

That is what's making the difference there. Not "lockdowns", which only have effect at the start of a pandemic, not after a virus has spread. How people cannot understand this I will never comprehend.

Anyway, on topic, there will be 6 to 12 months of pain for Pattaya, true, however it is better placed than most in Thailand. That is because Pattaya is basically a giant brothel and if we know one thing, after the AIDS epidemic it did not take long for bareback one night stands to make a comeback. That's how powerful the Libido is, in men even death is no deterrent for getting off. So Pattaya should be allright. All those girls will be back and will be back in work.

German consultant on sky news this morning has confirmed that the number of new cases in Germany is decreasing. Same in Spain.

All of this is totally irrelevant of course. We are all now locked down and helpless to get out of this mess.

Thai airways have now grounded planes until end of May.

Until you have contracted this virus or an accurate vaccine is found, you are just putting off the inevitable.

What a complete zero sum game for the next 12 to 18 months.

History will show us that we should have let it rip and got herd immunity.

Now its just a waiting game.

What will the prices be after everything starts again , i geuss most of the girls that do not have a sponsor will be in big need of money , so does that mean the prices will drop ??? Because a lot of the prices where up in the sky before and i have a feeling that everybody will understand now that they will not make this one go away by overpricing trying to get up to speed .

Right!

But it's not just a waiting game.

Behind the game, the destruction goes on.

After the pandemic, the newly freed citizens will discover a changed world where all the buildings will be still standing, but the peoples' lives will be destroyed.

The world will be full of economic zombies, a number of them probably wreaking havoc here and there.

Pattaya will be just an insignificant spot in this global mess.

Forget the Chinese...no population is more easily frightened...a simple boat accident in Phuket and they cancel en masse...now imagine after a killer virus pandemic...Thailand may never see them again.

Pattaya and Thailand should already prepare for a future without mass tourism...

I think the elders in the herd would disagree with you.  Not to mention, there are now over half a dozen new mutations of the original virus.

"Let it rip" and who knows what virus you end up with.  Maybe a virus that kills everyone.

Your last statement is not an argument it is the end of civilisation as we now it.

How long are you or your governments going to keep locked up?

What's the point?

Elderly people dying alone. No hope because of loneliness and bored.

No fresh air or companionship.

The easy answer is the course we are following.

Now we are at the bottom of a cul de sac, whats next?

I totally agree on the herd immunity point. Yes German new case numbers are going down and that could be significant but they also had a large number of deaths yesterday, maybe a bit early to say peak time is over.

The worst is that these countless lockdowns destroy trust.

It's not just financial markets that work on trust, much else in society does. You need to trust there will be flights. You need to trust that once you pay they won't be cancelled. This loss of trust will be very hard to make good. Trust can be rebuilt but it will take time. Many people will make worst case scenario preparations.

25 million jobs to be lost globally.

Shocking number.

But look up Paul Tudor, one of the most influential investors on Wall Street. He said that the markets will rally once the bottom is found.

There is going to be big rally up. Only question is when.

The reductions in cases are people presenting at hospital. There is a long delay through treatment.

Anyway it is good news.

Your right about trust and i am highly cynical about human nature. Yes, there are many health care workers and volunteers putting themselves at risk. They are heroes.

However, the vast majority of people take a very different attitude. Nearly had 2 verbal arguments with middle aged women getting stroppy in the local shop this morning. Tempers are going to start fraying very soon.

A lot of us are single men on this forum, who live quiet simple lives at home. Looking forward to fun times in Thailand.

Me too man, I can't wait for this nonsense to be over and to enjoy Thailand again.

You'll have to wait and nobody knows for how long and nobody knows what its going to be like after the "nonsense" is over either.

Time to legalize recreational ganja. It can be enjoyed at a safe distance from others. Look what it did for Colorado.

It would have be on a BYOB (bring your own bong) basis.

If the number of infections in Thailand reaches into the millions, it is probable that the Thai government would want to hide the full extent of the problem in order to preserve happiness (and not end up hanged by an angry mob).

They want to blame it on the Europeans, not the Chinese.

Certainly handy when you think of all the elderly expat retirees here that would be dropping off, with their family back home complaining to the media.

Forget the Chinese...they act like a school of fish, come all together, get frightened all together, and disappear all together...

Plus remember that they are taking a massive economic hit...their finances are going to be horrendous for a long time...

After the fear instilled by this contagion of every cough and sneeze.... that will be a small concern!

If my family and i come through this ,it will be no change ,Pattaya without hordes of tourists is just a plus for us ,like many here i am just a family man ,live in our home ,drive to the shops ,dont go to bars and am in bed by 10pm. Its the ordinary working man and woman i feel sorry for ,our problems fade into nothing compared with theirs.

It's unknown what Pattaya will be like when all of this is over.  Like I said, I like Thai food, but I don't want to eat it 7 days a week, but that's all that may be left.

The shops that you drive to may not be open.  They may change the visa requirements to get rid of some elderly expats that pose a risk to the Thailand's statistics and health care system.

Everything is not going to just open up and continue operating.  When this has passed, Pattaya will have changed.
