The government is focusing its attempts to curb the spread of the coronavirus on Thais and foreigners entering Thailand from overseas as the 104 new infection cases were reported today with three deaths.

The Foreign Ministry has been assigned to work out measures to restrict their arrivals for the next two weeks, according to Dr. Thaveesilp Wissanuyothin, spokesman of the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).

Thaveesilp said Thais who returned from overseas and foreign visitors are partly responsible for the continuing rise in the number of new infections.

“Though the number of travelers from overseas has significantly declined, the prime minister believes more need to be done to stem overseas arrivals in order to further flatten the curve,” said Thaveesilp.

Unfortunately he seems to be correct this time.

We have three cases here on Samui. Two were returning Frenchmen arriving in March and the third is believed to be a doctor.

Pretty bold now that arrivals are effectively down to zero.

Statistics of international arrivals at Suvarnabhumi:

28 March: 1,834

29 March: 1,795

30 March: 995

31 March: 1,126

Pretty sure there is a section in the constitution which enshrines the rights of all Thai citizens to enter/return to the Kingdom

Surely this act is illegal?

Section 39 of the Constitution:

Quote

No person of Thai nationality shall be deported or prohibited from entering the Kingdom.

Section 5 of the Constitution:

Quote

The Constitution is the supreme law of the State. The provisions of any law, rule or regulation or any acts, which are contrary to or inconsistent with the Constitution, shall be unenforceable.

However, Section 50 (6) of the constitution states that Thai people have a duty to:

Quote

respect and not to violate the rights and liberties of other people and not to commit any act which may cause disharmony or hatred in society

It would be for the Constitutional Court to decide on this matter.

Many came before that and didn't leave. A drugs paety was raided in Puket, with Thais and foreigners arrested. Plenty of covid still being spread among the punters who paid money to come here and have fun. They may get more than what they bargained for. Hope they can afford the icu bill.

So that would be zero plus the 5,750 arrivals in your figures which isn't zero, it's 5,750.

Not sure, but i do know they can and will close all entry and exit points, no one in or out, only flights in will be cargo, and only flights out cargo, and not the human type.  We live in uncharted territory.

Total lock down is necessary now! Why does Prayut not give the order?

Oh, dear.

Nowhere is the article does it say that 100% of arrivals will be halted. Why does the headline not match the article. Confused.

Is the suggestion of barring Thai nationals a world-first?

Can't recall any other country doing that?

Any international lawyers care to comment?

Can recall that India and Nepal have done that in the past 10 days or so. A few others no doubt as border closings have become quite common, even to home nationals.
