Covid-19: Foreigners spit on the sidewalk after being denied entry to convenience store for not wearing masks

A group of foreign tourists - angry about being denied entry to a convenience store in Khlung, Chanthaburi in eastern Thailand - shocked locals by spitting on the sidewalk and road outside. 

 

They were not wearing face masks.

 

Pictures were posted online causing a massive backlash against foreigners for their revolting behavior, reported Manager.

 

Local municipal chief Burin Thana-udomnan reacted swiftly and sent in a large water truck to hose down the area in Thetsaban Sai 4 before contacting the local police. 

 

They were studying CCTV both from inside the store and outside to find out who the offenders were and bring them to justice. 

 

Locals told the media that there were a group of foreigners who were angry at being denied entry to the store for not wearing masks. 

 

Manager pulled no punches in calling this behavior low.

 

While Thais online attacked foreigners for not obeying rules and not wearing masks as requested in shops.

If true it's moronic behaviour but I see Thais daily spitting on the floor. Never seen a farang do that yet but if they did round them up and deport them.  BTW seeing TV footage of USA, UK I don't see anyone wearing masks at all.

Here we go again. No mention of where these people were from, just the generic foreigner term used, so could have been from Cambodia or anywhere. Spitting on the floor at this time is pretty dumb, but the reaction seems to be excessive. There seems to be the mistaken belief that masks will save them all, and those without are deliberately trying to infect everyone else. And every excuse to have a dig at foreigners has no shortage of Thais, many of whom also spit on the floor, ready to unload their hatred.

If a store wants to make wearing a mask a condition of entry, no problem for me. I wear a mask everywhere outside my condo anyway.

IMO if one of the spitters tested positive for COVID-19, he/ she should be locked up and the key thrown away.

There was a Thai guy running just outside lumpini park with no face mask just spitting all over the sidewalk. Does Manager Online want to do a story on this?

Redhead just gave an OK to wear in USA I gather - they do not have enough for medical workers currently - my sister has a fabric dying business but is currently making masks for her local hospital and doctors in rural Oklahoma.

In the States it's not something that's ever been done till now.  So people are slowly adjusting.   But makes it worse when the president downplays the pandemic.

If they were white the title would have read 'dirty farang', so we can safely assume these foreigners were Asian.

I think unless you practice walking around on your hands, whilst picking your nose, then the chances of contracting anything from the side walk is pretty much zero !!

Funny how spitting becomes a news-worthy story now and not before the outbreak when hordes or zero-baht-tour Chinese tourists would just invade 7-11s by the bus-load. It's crazy how foreigners are penalized for not wearing masks when they're almost impossible to find and buy anywhere! A few weeks ago, I got sick of being stared at for not wearing a mask, then going to a pharmacy and being told - "no have". It was only because of the kind lady who runs the mini mart in my condo that I got a basic surgical mask.

In fact just a couple of days ago a Thai came to less than 1 metre from me and spat forcibly, fortunately on the floor rather than at me.

Almost every day for 10 years I've been watching Thais routinely spitting and gobbing on pavements, roads, parkland, spitting when speeding on their motorcycles past pedestrians and (possibly) hitting them, spitting during exercise and have always thought "Dirty barstewards". Yet it's always been 'just one of those things' and locals don't seem to be at all disturbed by it. Until now, but it's almost guaranteed their habits of a lifetime won't change - they just expect foreigners to comply with higher standards than they apply to themselves.

 

Slightly off-topic; our local Tescos is selling packs of 4 simple facemasks for 40฿ at noon every day this week, on production of an ID card. I'm going to try it today using my Pink Card. I reckon I'll be refused and unable to buy. Let's see!

I've often witnessed Thais spitting into rubbish bins in the building I work in, only for the cleaner to come along and empty it with their bare hands. Disgusting.

Any of you who opted to stay in Thailand for the duration, I would keep a very close eye on this growing trend of hostility towards farangs. Not just the incidents, but the manner in which they are reported.

Did you take a video? Go and send it to them. All foreigners should now take videos when they see Thais spitting on the ground and post it to the media. Lots of Thai guys do it, most likely due to all the mucous from their years of smoking affecting their lungs

I was in a 7/11 yesterday and there was  sweating ill looking Thai guy standing behind me - no mask on, I pulled him about it and he muttered something and left 

 

as for these louts - lock'em up for a few days and see how that works - but also Thais are not wearing masks - enforce the rules equally
