Only countries that have not had a severe outbreak of Covid-19 will be made part of Thailand’s “travel bubble” and the Kingdom will restrict the type of travellers allowed into the country, Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said on Monday (June 15).

He added that guidelines on the situation will be released by the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration and clarified to the public.

“I have spoken with the ambassadors of Singapore, New Zealand, China and South Korea. We have to see which nationalities Thais are happy to welcome, as well as consider the state of the economy and people’s livelihoods,” the minister said.

China, wasn't they the ones that started the whole thing? where they the ones that continued to cover up their real numbers? second wave you say, but they have been so transparent and open throughout so surely they should be top of the list...

George Orwell would be proud of the doublethink. The virus originated in China, the CCP is probably fudging numbers, and he's going to be choosy in welcoming them back?

Matey, Thailand ain't exactly clean, plenty

of rubbish about, dodgy pavements, sewage

outfalls near beaches, lots of queer smells

everywhere.

If I ain't welcome here, fair enough,

Cuba next year.

I think he is over-estimating how many people actually will travel at this point in time.

I don't think he even bothers to estimate he simply opens his mouth and the drivel spills forth, he is the gift that keeps on giving....

Sh*t he literally said welcome "Nationalities". There goes my plan for maybe going to Korea then going into quarantine and then going to Thailand. Seems like they will be just looking at your nationality...

If he is very choosy and we still have a second wave, do you think he will 'fall on his sword' or will the Teflon keep working?

I think the medical certificate and airport temperature scans are better.  All races rich or poor have got virus.

Oh dear, I believe Anutin will be eating his words again within a matter of weeks especially when it comes to China, Beijing in particular.

Only last year, Pattaya merchants, bar owners etc were begging for more Western tourists as the Chinese and Indians didn't spend the same....He may find Thais are not in agreement with his views

Those certificates, if required, will keep people out who have passports from countries where they won't issue them. That would be true for me as I'm sure doctors in the U.S. won't write bogus fit to fly certificates.

He must have been pants and given a swirly when he was a student in the west.  It is the only thing that could drive his hatred for westerners.

Fave refrain of night club bouncers

" your not on the list .. You're not coming in " ..

It seems to me they are putting all the chips on countries from the east two of whom have both had recent spikes in new cases .. the most recent in China ..

What else is convincing the minister that droves from the countries considered " lucky " enough to find their way onto the " admission " list will be queueing to jump on a plane .. factor in airliners might end up carrying considerably less passengers the shortfall in revenue ultimately being taken up by those who do fly .. And China as is Thailand exhorting its citizens to holiday within their own country .. This has potential to go spectacularly wrong if it fails to provide what they are undoubtedly hoping for out of it ..

The tourists will be even more choosey where they want to go.

Leave it to a billionaire to restrict travel into the country and continue to depress tourism related sectors of the economy.
Anutin like his BBFs in the other leadership positions are all independently wealthy and as such probably could give a rip if that segment of the economy ever recovers.  To these guys it's all control.  Having the wealth to be above the poor, groveling hoards while keeping a knee on their necks economically.

"We're saving you!!!"

No you're not.
