Insurance Cover for USD100,000 Stipulated for all Returning Foreigners

According to a Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand notification, distributed to Air Operators, the seven groups of foreigners expected to be allowed entry from 1st July, must have appropriate insurance policies.

The regulations state that passengers must show they have medical insurance which applies in Thailand and covers anything and everything to do with covering COVID19. The minimum medical coverage in Thailand is for an amount of not less than USD100,000.

This is in addition to checking that before flying passengers must have obtained a ‘Fit to Fly’ health certificate certifying that passengers pose no risk of being infected by COVID 19 virus and this to be issued no more than 72 hours prior to date of travel.

The aforementioned groups will include skilled labourers, foreigners married to Thais and permanent residents of Thailand, educational personnel, teachers, and students.

Jack Levy, Managing Director of Macallan Insurance Brokers based in Thailand, said he totally understood the reasons for the Thai government’s caution. However, from a practical standpoint, he advised that passengers need to plan ahead.

Levy added, “From my experience it could take a number of days to get the policy finished and back to the client from the date when we receive the completed application form. This takes into account the underwriting process, the offer letter going back to the client for signing and, ultimately, the policy documents being produced and sent out to the client”.

For more information about exactly what is required go to www.macallanbroker.com.

Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman of the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), said that the first group would comprise businessmen and investors in the waiting list who have agreed to Alternative State Quarantine.

The second group to be allowed entry from July 1 include: skilled labour and experts, foreigners married to Thais and permanent residents of Thailand, educational personnel, teachers, and students.

Medical and wellness tourists will be allowed when health institutions and hospitals are ready.

With large numbers of these groups having registered to enter Thailand they expect up to 50,000 to fly here soon.

Brokers and Insurance companies are already working around the clock to handle existing cases, so companies like Macallan Insurance have taken on more staff to handle this anticipated rush.

Citizens from Japan, South Korea, Singapore, China and Hong Kong will not be required to enter state quarantine if their stay in Thailand is brief, but they must be tested for COVID-19 in their home countries and, again, upon arrival in Thailand.  During their stay in Thailand, they are also required to use the Thai Chana tracing app, so that their movements can be monitored.  Group arrivals are set at 10 per group at most.

Teachers and students insured for 100k. Maybe after the dollar devaluation.

Better demolish all hotels and send the related staff harvesting rice by hand.

I love my Thailand it is all about fun here

Very interesting:

"Citizens from Japan, South Korea, Singapore, China and Hong Kong will not be required to enter state quarantine if their stay in Thailand is brief, but they must be tested for COVID-19 in their home countries and, again, upon arrival in Thailand."

I wonder if this approach will ultimately be extended to other people flying in, especially those coming from countries which got on top of the Covid 19 spread very quickly and have had low infections and deaths. Hope so.

But of course it's going to depend whether this approach works with very few/zero infections recorded whilst these folks are in Thailand.

Quite a positive step that this approach/set up will be tested.

We wait and see.

Where did Singapore come from, i had not seen it earlier?

They must be mad, its the one place in southeast asia that has very large infection rates.

I was thinking this was the tourist plan . Just tried to recheck and i see now that its just the business category.

Nobody is coming to Thailand with these hurdles. Guess the ladies of Pattaya, Phuket and Bangkok will just have to go back to the rice fields, lots of hotels going bust.

Shooting oneself in the foot springs to mind.

Is this another case like for retirement visa extensions, that only Thai policies and not international policies are acceptable?

The vast majority of work permit holders are citizens of Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar who work in low income jobs such as construction. I wonder how they will be able to afford a policy such as this?

and 76+  no policy?

My understanding is that Pacific Cross cover is in the order of 1,000,000 baht?

US$ 100,000 for returning foreigners is is in the order of 3 million baht or I have missed something?

No. International policies are fine. And since Thai companies will not insure people who don't live in Thailand at least 6 months a year, pretty good bet almost all policies will be foreign.

They don't usually fly in. This is not about them.

And, they are eligible for cover under the 30 haht scheme. So insurance not an issue.

They have so far not let migrant workers enter. Mor are they processing the L-A visas for them. On hold.

oh dear   ! ...... everybody is jumping up & down about insurance ....  SCB bank COVID19 cover 499 baht LOL   !!!

That's part of the issue. At the minute the Social Fund will not issue any kind of document that states covid or anything else is covered by Social Fund contributions.

Embassies will not issue a certificate of entry without an insurance document.

Maybe this will change at a later date.

I was just quoted 4000 baht (still good!) for a 3 month trip (travel insurance) and 4M baht of coverage by them. Its CHUBB insurance btw so probably cheaper to go direct to them. Not sure of policy details though.

peterwa1 is spot on - this will encourage more visitors and for them to stay healthy.

Temporary travel insurance rather than a permanent policy, available prior to departure from one's own country to Thailand.

and of course there is not doubt a blanket Exemption for the Chinese to not have their 706713.78 yuan policies?
