Covid-19: Thailand named best in the world in coronavirus pandemic recovery stats

 

"Thailand is the world champion"

 

Thailand has moved up to the best in the world in a rating of recovery from the pandemic. 

 

Sanook said that the country had a rating of 81.15 on 24th July, 81.55 on the 25th and Tuesday topped the Global Covid-19 Index (GCI) with 82.06.

 

The top five in the recovery index are now Thailand, South Korea, Latvia, Malaysia and Taiwan.

 

Previous leaders Australia and New Zealand have fallen to eighth and sixth respectively. 

 

A total of 184 countries are ranked in the index that takes into account the proportion of the population that have died and other data from Johns Hopkins University.

Well done Thailand indeed, however...

 

This is the main reason why there will be no wholesale opening of the borders or lifting of quarantine restrictions for the foreseeable future. 

 

The xenophobia this government has created will now work against them as will their own success in handling the crisis so far. Thais will be petrified that those nasty furriners will enter and spread the virus... thus any second wave or outbreak will be catastrophic to this authoritarian administration and must not be allowed under any circumstances.

 

The only solution for them now being a complete isolation of the entire country with mandatory quarantine for all entrants. This means only a dribble of essential people in and out, and that is for the foreseeable future.

 

Meanwhile the Thai government will need to find another solution for the 20%+ of GDP that has just gone missing through lack of overseas tourism, dwindling exports and a tightening of belts domestically. Given that the situation globally will certainly worsen, it does not look like there is a solution, and with so many mega-projects just being signed off, I fear that an economic collapse is even more likely in tandem with growing political unrest.

 

The cracks are already beginning to show.

Looking at the worldwide news everyday I am happy to be in Thailand with no or little Covid-19.

Many people complain about the government but I think especially in this case we have to say: Good job. Thanks.

And then there are all the Thai people who take this serious. Most were wearing masks right from the beginning. Nobody had to order the people to wear masks, they were smart enough to do it by themselves. Great.

 

And the economy? Obviously that is bad and it will continue to be bad for some time. Nobody likes that. But what's the alternative? Opening up the borders and inviting tourist in? How long will it take before they infect others? And then? Let it spread or shut down again? I think no international tourists is the best from all the bad options.

It's Johns Hopkins University. The Johns Hopkins University is a private research university in Baltimore, Maryland. Founded in 1876, the university was named for its first benefactor, the American entrepreneur, abolitionist, and philanthropist Johns Hopkins.

I would think that one of the reasons "official covid deaths" are low in Thailand is due to the fact that they admitted all positive cases to hospital, unlike many other countries where you only get admitted if serious.

 

This strategy is possible when you have low numbers and appears to have paid off. 

 

Caveat of course is taking the official numbers as real, a big ask

Thailand has some top notch Doctors, Scientists, and their overall private medical facilities are outstanding.

Is that borders generally, or borders including generals and other military who don't need testing because of their rank or diplomatic status?

I dont' see how you can take Thailand's official numbers as real when you realise they've not tested 99% of the population. Take that into account and those Thai numbers are not exactly likely to be an accurate reflection of reality.

 

I also doubt's it's the hospital treatment making the difference, after all there is no cure, no vaccine for Covid19. Unless Thailand has a secret weapon it's not disclosing to the world.

 

If you look at excess deaths Thailand does not have less deaths than most countries that were not seriously affected. And Thailand was probably not seriously affected because its population is a) less obese b) younger.

You have a general idea of the 60 or so who are killed daily at road accident scenes daily yes?...

Do you know how many die on the way to the hospital? Or at the hospital? Do you?

 

So then why would you have a wealth of any ideas as to how many have been dying in the country provinces? Labeled pneumonia as they have no covid tests.

How many covid tests done in Thailand thus far? less than 500k? In a country of 70 million?

 

When Covid hit Thailand was full of Chinese & others...Borders were not sealed instantly nor when they were sealed was there a magical vacuum created to suck out all live Covid infections.

 

You know it is one thing for indoctrinated in "No Tink Too Mutt" their whole lives to be so gulible, but for so many Falangs to now parrot the ignorance is not even funny.

Thailand classifies a death as Covid19 related if the patient has tested positive for the disease and an autopsy shows the cause of death is due to the infection.

 

If one does not test the deceased for Covid19, one cannot determine if the infection was present.If one does not perform a full autopsy how does one determine the cause of death is other than  "old age" or "flu".

 

Do you believe that Thailand has tested the thousands of dead people since last January, for the presence of Covid19, or even performed a full post mortem?
