I find it a bit sad that after 21 years of continuous living in Thailand that I still have to met up at the police station (emigration) as a common criminal.

And I read that now we farangs have to pay double fee at local hospitals. 

The way I see it, they should have a national holiday praising all the farangs who has put enormous amounts of money into the Thai economy, rescued a lot of Isan families from deprivation and poverty.

It`s because of the girls, I know, and I know they sacriface themselves for the good of the family. After my divorce in 2014, I never marred again. Not even a one night stand.

I tried once, but I felt I was raping the girl so I let it go. 

I wish the government of Thailand would give us long staying farangs some incentive to stay here.

Yep, and they don't want you I'm afraid, yet these guys can do anything in your own country. I think it'll only get worse, with most expats being squeezed out in favour of Asia-centric tourism.

I know that you, and many other farangs, think that you are single handedly saving Thailand by the money you bring in, but in the context of all Thailand it's insignificant. Every farang married to a Thai could leave tomorrow and it would make no difference to the country at large, though it would be an individual tragedy for all those Thai families with farang ATMs.

Not single handedly.

But now suppose every expat farang brings in 50,000 Baht.

Suppose there are 100,000 expat farang.

Now do the sums.

100,000 X 50,000 X 12.

60,000,000,000 Baht per year.

And then the investment in houses, cars, motorbikes etc, etc.

You think that makes no difference at all?

For that amount you need a hell of a number of Chinese tourists.

A former provincial governor knew better and wasn't afraid to say so.

He thought that every farang expat brought a job for 2.4 Thai.

Legal jobs, outside the Pattaya kind.

Yes, some of us have helped bringing technology that is now manufactured & exported brings 

in valuable reserves, but the truth of the matter is that the Thai economy would do just fine without us.

For those of you quoting Bht amounts have a look at the monthly export figures even when down by 8.7% as a result of the virus. Our spending & savings pall into insignificance.

You are absolutely  right that in the pure numbers game ... it does not matter ... A bit like saying ... Out of ... 400 000 children .. only .9% will catch some bad illness ... But that is 'ok' as its below 1% ...

 

Well .. it still is 3900 children + Lets say the traumatic experience for the close family ... * 2 = 7200 adults

 

Now lets say you could wipe out the 0.9% .. and have 0% ... at no cost to society ... Would that not be a thing to be happy about ?  (maybe not worth having a holiday for ???? ..)

 

I try and 'remember' that behind statistics .. are ordinary people ....

I think we all know what your saying, however the sooner you let go and look at the other alternative, the better it will be for you, took me a while to let go of the TM30 addition, ended up doing it online, then it got scraped, yippi, then I started doing the 90 days reporting online lately, after almost 5 years, so much easier when the system works, as for the annual extension, well wife organises that and I just show up with the fee, so I less stressed in the area of immigration.

 

As for hospitals, I am young enough to pay private health insurance at 60 and if it skyrockets, will look at self insuring as I used to in the first 2 years.

 

Rescued lots of Issan Thai families, kept them above water, yes but they would have survived without us.

The incentive for me to stay here is the tax free retirement I have, the cheap dream home I built here would have cost me x 10 back home, so there are incentives to stay, oh don't forget the cheap beer and woman, coming Tiruk.....

 

I think you need to change your mindset, Thailand offers us opportunities to have a simpler life here as opposed to back home, suffice to say, we have to accept things for what they are as much as they get up our nose at times, including the smoke, rubbish, drivers on roads, better stop there or I will get all worked up....was very close to throwing in the towel a couple of months back, here for now ????

I can understand this post, there are posters with their Sad and Confused emoticans, this I cannot understand. The OP has a very valid point, many thousands of expats and retirees have contributed millions of Bahts to the Thai economy over many years and taken many Thai families out of poverty.

There should be some incentives to expats for the contribution, ie permanent residency to any expats who have lived in Thailand with a Thai wife and family after ten years of being together.

If someone has also had no criminal convictions, and proved themselves to be good, solid Thai citizens, then why not?

I agree. It's sad that after so many years of living with your Thai wife, supporting the extended family and pumping money into the local community, that they still want you to keep checking in every 90 days, and are still itching to find something wrong every time you apply for your visa or extension. And you still can't work.

There are and have always been dual pricing in Europe and the US for tourists in hospitals if they don't have an insurance. The difference in prices can be 10-100 times. I think expats can afford dual pricing in Thailand.

In my opinion, first you are here for yourself, not for the Thai government, you'll have to accept the rules how they are.

But above everything: You have to do it yourself do not count on another, and do not depend on another.

That's my experience after living here for many years.
