I never fail to be disappointed

Well after some hard bargaining I went to pick up my new Chevrolet X  Cab LTZ Z71 Colorado (2.5 door)  2  days  ago from a  dealer in North Thailand, the only one prepared to  haggle  on price to any real extent.

List price was  799k thenChevvy announced they were quitting so price  reduced to 599k and I got it down to 525k with all the extras and thats a blooming good deal with the 3  year guarantee and 3  year breakdown cover.

I was prepared for the usual  screwups with all the extras and it never fails to surprise me how dumb they can be and how they always try it  on.

Included in the deal in written messages for clarity as they can never be trusted verbally were Wheel Flares, Carpets/Mats/  cup holders,  Stickers on front and rear, Rear second seat, mud  flaps, window tinting, 1500 bahts  worth of fuel bed  liner etc

All items to be original Chevrolet parts no copies and photos  sent to them of every  part before the pick up was delivered.

Arrived at the dealers (545km trip they knew we were coming from afar) and sure enough fake wheel arch flares, fake bed  liner and they managed to put the bonnet/hood  sticker on in the wrong place.

Despite Wife  telling them that  "fussy falang"  knew this  vehicle  inside and out and would spot anything amiss they thought they could get away with it.

End result they  now  have to send me the correct parts to fit myself and will pay return postage for their ole <deleted> copies. Written and signed on our payment invoice, they tried the ole BS  of the X Cab has  different parts to another model but thats  all it  was and we showed them photos "again" of the genuine parts and the GM  logo stamped on them.

The sticker they just ignored said it  looked  good so  Ill order one myself as the copies are actually  pretty  good.

As for the car, they managed to disconnect the front  washer  hose which I spotted on checking it so when the squirter was pressed it washed the inside of the bonnet/hood  beautifully but not the screen they poured in a thimble  full of water which ran out on my trip  back after 2  squirts in rainy  muddy conditions, they pumped the tyres up to 289 instead of 240 as per the sticker on the doors so it rode like concrete and the clean it had was pretty poor, all things of  course  Ill sort  out. Again its  not the first time and its not  just Chevrolet that have been <deleted> like this when spending  money on  cars/pickups etc  seen it all before with  Toyota Honda  Nissan.

Ill  post pics later had 1  hours  sleep after arriving back at 4.45am 6  hour drive.

One of the great things about living in Thailand is not having to drive.  To each his own.

You never fail to be disappointed?  So you are disappointed in everything you do, every person, and every transaction you are involved in here?  You sound like a victim.

You got a great deal they probably made very little off that sale.

So, they tried to flim flam some things that sounds like will be made right. I would have left laughing about it, not disappointed.

So after extorting the dealer down in price on a discontinued vehicle that was already heavily discounted, you insisted on getting a myriad of extras thrown in, including 1500 baht of fuel! He's probably not making a penny on the deal with his only advantage that he's getting rid of useless stock.

In his place I would've done more than just empty your washer reservoir and overinflate the tires.

At least your wife knows you well.

I'm thinking of buying a new vehicle, are you available as a commissioned buyer?

Do you really think they all have so much margin that they could sell a 799k car for 525k? Think again!

Personally I look for reasonable prices in the area where I live. If I buy something I want that I get a reasonable deal and I want that the dealer makes money. That keeps the dealer running and the dealer will be happy to see me again and help me again. Is it possible to save some money and get somewhere a better price? Yes, likely it is. Does that help in the long run with service, etc.? I doubt it. Live and let live.

I am waiting for your next post where you complain about whatever problem.

Then you will complain that you have to drive 545km to the dealer.

You will obviously also complain why the dealer wants to charge you for whatever work they have to do. After all, they made such a fortune when you bought that car.

I am sure you must have an interesting life. Or to quote you: I never fail to be disappointed

Good luck with that. They got your money - that's all they care about and you are 525km away.

Many years back I ordered Vigo in light mica blue, they said one month wait for that colour, OK, I'll wait.

Your Vigo is here, took the hire car back, went to the dealers, it was dark mica blue. ????

They were adamant that was what I ordered, I took it home..But, the colour did grow on me and Mrs.T said it was a better colour..????

300k THB discount...I would rather try to be happy instead of ruining my life and wasting my time for a sticker...but whatever!

Cab LTZ Z71 Colorado (2.5 door)

What do you expect. You buy a 2,5. door car. Does it come from the scrap yard or does the heavy discount in price came from the missing doors?????

Such vitriol about a marque of vehicle you may not have owned. Based on what? I suspect more imagined ego, than consumer experience. But each to their own.

Suzuki is still in business in Thailand unlike Chevy/Daewoo.

"Egotism is the anaesthetic that dulls the pain of stupidity."

Don't feel too disappointed, others have crappy days also.

Many years ago I worked in a garage, one day a car owner came to collect his vintage Bentley that had just been repaired.

The bosses old man told us no one but him was to drive the car.

Anyway in plain sight of the car owner this old fool side swiped the full length of the car along a brick wall.

We had a good laugh about it, except the poor stiff who wanted to take his car out for a drive

Who sounds like the Victim then?...

Someone who accepts substandard service, people who have lied to them? Or someone who calls this out as unacceptable?

All you have done is attempted normalise substandard service - its not acceptable here as equally as its unacceptable in our home countries.

I too am with the Op on this one and even with low expectations am frequently left underwhelmed by the shortcuts and repetitive chancing of people in service industries. Some places get it right, but so commonly the apathy shines through for a disappointing experience. This stuff is not hard to get right, but the truth is people just don’t give a fuook !

If your life is ruined by taking the time to get a sticker you need to address things.

The op on the other hand has not said his life will be ruined. How much time does it take you to order a sticker?

The Op simply had a rant on an anonymous webform, his rant is understandable and justifiable, no harm there. Many of us have felt the same at various points in life over here in Thailand.

I could have written a very similarly based rant about the general fvxkwittery of the workmen building our extension and there would be someone such as yourself replying ‘why ruin my life and waste time on a kitchen extension’ or something equally as banal.

The people in the Chevy dealership clearly took shortcuts and thought they could pull the wool over the Ops eyes, this despite the Ops wife telling them he’s detailed, get it right.

Unfortunate this is what to expect and rather the normal than the opposite.

Therefor always buy local rather than aiming for the best deal 540km away. At least when I started building, I knew how it was going to be, so no complaining, just need to get out some steam sometimes, and I understand op very well, but still,, it is expected as he also knew even he tried to minimize the failures and misunderstandings.
