Thai PM wants all tourists to wear wristbands - we're not opening the floodgates

and when did Swedes get microchipped?

For a while! You obviously missed something, but if you like I can also tell you another about the Swedes.

Sweden is the only country in the world (at least to my knowledge) to have abolished cash. In Sweden, cash is banned and refused as a means of payment These are the information in my possession and I sincerely hope that they are wrong

  • Now who else wanted minorities to wear armbands, let me think.

  • I'm sure the locals are going to super friendly to anyone seen wearing one of these wristbands. They'll be treated like lepers. How long before shops have signs outside "Solly, wristband people cannot

  • They really need someone with an ounce of common sense to stop all of these ridiculous ideas before they make fools of themselves every single day.

Seriously, coming here for a holiday sounds like a humiliating test of endurance.

I think this wristband idea will put many potential western tourists off 0who until now considered to travel.

I think the Thai Officials (Gov/Immigration) should use a professional interpreter to translate what they REALLY DO MEAN when putting out stories and holding press conferences that pertain to Foreigners.

So much is always LOST in translation by various outlets.

It may be that the wristbands are only while in quarantine. Why would they have people use is AFTER quarantine?

TV clarification please?

In Western Australia 2 people had  escaped the quarantine many times the have been fitted

with ankle bracelets which is understandable

After reading all previous 20 pages ..I,m not sure if I should be angry, laughing or in shock. I am one of the stupid farang (with a Thai family) waiting for me up north near Chiang Rai. I am one of those idiots who has agreed to an expensive charter flight coming up soon, a 14 day QUARUNTINE , eating food I probably won't like, having sticks shoved up my nose, producing gobs of worthless paperwork with big expenses like the "fit to fly", (almost like the 150thb fit to drive joke), leaving a pretty safe and FRIENDLY place in Europe (The Agarve)  to come to a country that really does NOT want me, treats me like a big criminal, overcharges me for most everything when they can get away with it, TM30,TM28, the list goes on. I have not seen my wife since December. She cries when we video chat, my 5 dogs cry when they hear my voice on the phone, so does my stepdaughter. After reading the latest hairbrain remark from " you know who" I am shocked. My parents went thru the Nazi holocaust and my surviving uncle had a tattoo on his inner forearm with a number from a concentration camp. I grew up never having grandparents. For now I may not be in the STV group of idiots but a stupid husband missing his family. This latest idiocy pushes me over the edge. i refuse to be tracked and harassed especially in a country where I own an expensive condo and support many families and trades through maintenance, travel, food,  etc. I have been running a very successful company in USA for the last 32 years and the beauty of it is I am pretty independent and answer to no one. Yes these Thai fascist don't "get it". I emailed my wife and told her of this moronic plan and if it goes through..I will immediately pack my bags, put the condo up for sale to some Chinese sucker, and sail off to my little villa in the mountains of Portugal on a hill so close to the ocean (which is spotless with no garbage everywhere like Thailand)and enjoy $2.00 glasses of Vino Verde and the $1.00 bottles of beer, and eat an amazing complete meal for $10.00!! What the Thai leaders don't get is that even with Covit there are so many cheaper, more pleasurable, cleaner, safer, less stringent immigration standard countries than Thailand..

I got the feeling it is time to cut and run..i know making jokes is all we can really do. I'm not angry but more sad. Yes, I will miss my Thai family and friends, all the cute ladybois i get to play pool with, but I will not live under Gestapo rule and be treated like a 2nd class person ..only existing here and tolerated here so Thailand can suck my money out of me.. Maybe for the Chinese Thailand is a step up from the way they are treated at home by their Communist leaders. But if you ask any normal Thi worker they HATE alot of Chinese with their cheapness, pushiness, unfriendliness, uncleanliness, etc. They really miss all those nice Europens that used to come to stay In Kata, Karon and enjoy Swedish meatballs and Thai food.. I remember those days. .But the land of smiles has taken all of us for granted and harassed us enough and burned their bridges.. .The Brazilian girls running around here in the Algarve are starting to look really good as a viable option. LOL.

Stop thinking out loud because all it does is <deleted> people off .  Covid tests and 14 day quarantine feels like smart policy . The other <deleted> they spout seems like they want to punish tourists for wanting to go to Thailand . Truly detached from what tourists expect in a holiday .

What’s next. A ball and chain with an “unclean” sign on your back.

OMG....................how totally ignorant of history can one person be?

This has horrendous overtones.

Most Thais are ignorant of history you only have to look at the syllabus.

I really don't get the paranoia by having people:

1. Assessed as healthy and 'fit to fly'

2. Negative Covid test within 72 hours of flight

3. Negative Covid test on arrival

4. 15 days quarantined in hotel

5. Negative Covid test to leave quarantine

And now

6. Wear a GPS tracking wrist band 24/7 for entire length of stay.

The worst part about this is if someone does all of the above and catches Covid at day 60 of stay, they will say 'see, Farang brought covid in' rather than they caught it in covid-free thailand.

Maybe a good idea? But ONLY if I have to wear the wristband during my 14 days quarantine which I will spend with my thai wife in my own comfortable condo overlooking the sea. I can phone for delivery any time and I refuse to pay for overpriced prison hotels. I still have a valid multiple retirement visa and money in my thai bank. And yes I am scandinavian and still hoping for common sense!

The cloud cuckoo land kid strikes again.????

So Prayut says any tourist must wear a GPS wrist band, ha, ha ,ha, dream on pal.

No problem, the first 2 loads of Chinese, 1 goes to Pattaya to buy all the empty guest houses and bars and organise there refitting into gold shops, money exchanges, Chinese hotels and luxury spas.

This has already happened in Chiang Mai, and you should see the glistening gold shops and Casino on the main Rd of Tachilek now

The other goes to Bummingrad hospital for treatment.

The scandanavians are just wealthy people returning to their holiday homes.

The second act to follow STV will be 6 million Chinese who have been vaccinated.

Act 3 will be Russians with a Sputnik 5 certificate.

Europeans will have to wait for the Yanks to get the Fda to give the green light to whichever of the big pharma companies in the multi billion dollar political fight.

The Thailand after lockdown will be vapourised and replaced with the above.

Hope there will soon be the day when Thai people say "Enough is enough" and want the PM to wear a band around his neck.

And I leave it to their choosing where the other end shall be attached.

That 'number 6' is pure speculation which will ultimately turn out to be nothing more than that.

These trackers are going to be used to track movements while in quarantine - nothing more.

Fair enough.

Some will have no objections to this.

Freedom of choice.

I am not worried for the moment.

People can come to Thailand if they are preprare to follow some directives.

If not, they are still free not to come.

People can still leave if they are not prepared to follow the actual directives, and maybe new further ones.

I will be seriously worried the day I have no freedom of choice anymore.

All well and good and wise words, however, would you or are you prepared to wear a tracking device if directed to do so by the Thai government - - assuming you are actually living here?

Yes, I stated it already in a previous post.

At 72, and being here 20 years, I am prepare to endure further other directives.

However if it becomes, what I personally will consider as too much, I will buy a one-way ticket.

That's assuming of course a ticket is available????

Correct, I stated that in my post 326.

all foreign tourists allowed in under the special tourist visa must wear GPS wristbands so that their movements can be closely tracked.

Being tracked by Big Brother all day is not my idea of an ideal vacation.  "We just want to make sure you are complying with all laws.  But of course, we the leadership and police do not respect or honor our own laws."
