Tourism industry insider optimistic on the upcoming high season

CH7-1.jpg

Thai media Channel 7 quoted the former chief of the Thai hoteliers' association as saying that this year's high season would be at least 20% down on last year.

And in a statement that will be seen as the mother of all understatements, Suphawan Thanomkiatphoom said that this year's high season will not be very high.

She reckoned that the economy was picking up but the Thais were not spending much and were watching every baht.

One high spot would be those Thais who would normally go abroad but due to the pandemic would holiday in places like the cool north.

Their high spending power would help the luxury hotel market.

The report featured a shuttered hotel called the Khaosan Palace.

Barriers blocked the entrance and a sign said that Covid-19 had led to the place being shut temporarily.

Really?  What makes her think that they will be spending any money in the long term as the looming political crisis and economic fallout have not even hit a fevered pitch yet.  So many hopeful people in this world who have nothing except wishful thinking, and their own views, instead of looking truly at the bigger picture.

She is Hopeful isn't she.  I see it being down 80%, and that's not from some lofty perch she sits upon.  Looks like another one wanted their 15 minutes of fame as well.  Can not be forgotten can they.  Living on past laurels..

That's pie-in-the-sky unrealistic. With international tourism down to virtually nothing, the "high season" will be down more like 80% and a lot of Thais have lost their sources of income and even if they "travel" it will be mostly on a tight budget. Nope it's a stay home and hunker down cycle until a vaccine and politics facilitate a re-opening.

Yes, no need to look past the words she speaks.  She is just brilliant.  She should be working for TAT, and Anutin

And neither bear any resemblance to reality.

They have to face it, it's over. The tourist industry has gone.

Blimey, if that article is her being optimistic, I'd hate to read what she says when she's being pessimistic, lol!

The season when they allow the open smoking of that green bud out in public.  Contact highs anyone!

Ex pat visitors to Chiang Mai seem to have increased over the last couple of weeks especially with some of the direct flights. Hope it continues but I think only 20% down on last year is a little wide of the mark.

Very little until July 2021 at the earliest is my prediction

I was looking at a trip up north .. but rainy season, then followed by smoky season, all topped off with wearing uncomfortable masks for a flight .. nah. Will stay within driving distance. Which is not bad at the moment, for first time in years Thai friends are coming back to Pattaya, now that the Chinese hordes are gone. I do like the change in demographics.

Optimism and any hope of Thailand having a profitable high season are simply unrealistic.  In fact it's completely stupid for anyone to believe otherwise.

Why don't you offer free 14 day quarantine? I guess most would only stay for 14 days. Bad luck again.

Not to mention toxic levels of 2.5 PM air pollution assuring among other things that they will not be able to view the mountains. Are they hoping no one will notice? ????????????

My continued employment hinges on my statement

what do u expect??? Hehehe

The High Season?  That would be the High Pollution Season.  As usual it seems fire burning crops is taking precedence over peoples health and tourism.

Has Suphawan Thanomkiatphoom been at the magic mushrooms again?

theres plenty of people who wish to come but quarantine must be less and cheaper .long term visa is a good idea.the insurance scam must be looked into, a racist scam it most certainly is and something needs doing about it,other countries dont do this to tourists and thais arnt treated so.the hoops and hurdles are lessened and a season of sorts can be salvaged.good for everyone.airport needs to open fully and tests on arrival ....free
