45-day Tourist Visa Mulled

 

 

BANGKOK, Dec 7 (TNA) – The government’s business easing committee will propose the government extend the validity of tourist visas to 45 days from 30 days to attract visitors.

 

National Security Council secretary-general Gen Nathapol Nakpanit in his capacity as the director of the committee discussed with committee members the idea as well as COVID-19 situation in Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai province.

 

After the meeting, Chaturon Chaiyakham, deputy director-general of the Consular Affairs Department, said the prime minister ordered the Foreign Affairs Ministry to work out measures to attract visitors.

Tourist visas are for 60 days, not 30 days ????

Perhaps they mean Visa Exemption stamps that people arriving without a visa get (nationality allowing). 

 

But, who the h3ll knows what the h3ll they're on about.

I guess if you have no idea why people were coming in the first place, offering a 45 day visa is good a response as any......

The 45-day tourist visa idea will apply to visitors from the 56 countries where Thailand has granted 30-day visa upon arrival, in order to make up for 14-day quarantine.

 

They still haven't worked out that the vast majority of potential tourists will not come if there is any sort of quarantine, though I will admit that it is, for once, a logical suggestion.

those 30 days are visa exemption, not visa on arrival.

Visa on arrival is 15 days and costs 1000b.

All visa exemption and visa on arrival, and many other visas, were cancelled in March.

They don't have a clue what they are doing.

They probably mean visa exemption. 

There was a VOA but it only applied to a few countries. At least fewer than 56 as the article mentions..

Except that they are no longer issuing visas on arrival.

 

Nor are they currently giving VE entry.

So this will be called the QOA Visa, or Quarantine on Arrival before enjoying our Covid free vacation.  Not sure anyone can get afford 6 weeks off from work let alone actually obtaining the time off all in a row, in the real normal world.

Instead of Immigration using the Covid-19 pandemic downtime to revamp the existing outdated and outmoded Visa System, they just keep throwing more visas into the confusion.

Of course, anyone who can see more than 1 cm past their nose can figure out that the quarantine won't last forever, and that this is a measure to kickstart tourism once the quarantine is lifted.

Funny how they made it a priority for the last 6 years to drive all the people in Thailand on tourists visas away with silly rules but now they need some cash they want to lure them back ???? seems like a bargirl that only loves you when she's broke or run out of other options!

May as well make it 450 days. The length of time inside the country is clearly not the issue for actual tourists right now.

Because 15 nights of stay you will be locked in a hotel.

 Holiday begins day 16. Arrival in Thailand is day zero. 

45-15=30.  Finally, a solution.

I wonder if Thailand will allow vaccinated travelers to skip quarantine? Otherwise we will have to wait until most of the Thai population is vaccinated which will be a looong time.

If you are vaccinated, that does not mean you can not transmit the virus...so they will probably ask for people to be vaccinated AND take the quarantine.

I think they are not sure if asymptomatic vaccinated people can transmit the virus.

If it is 95% effective it would be a small chance a traveler is infected.  I guess it will depend on where they are coming from and how much infecting is there.

If 1 in 500 travelers are infected now, that would be maybe 1 in 5000 with a vaccine. Still not good enough.

I love this idea.  Because everybody I know who wants to come to Thailand is scratching their backsides over the hoops they have to jump through, to get the visa and misc. other permissions from their respective embassies!

 

So, we go back to visa on arrival (30 days) plus 15 days paid quarantine, but the beauty is, you get to arrive in Thailand just like before, just tack on an extra 15 days at the start of holiday (cost about $1000) and relax in your room, eat and drink, watch tv, whatever!

 

Thailand version 2.

30 days is visa exempt, it is not visa on arrival that is as people should know, something else.

With the current administration visa free travel to Thailand will not be allowed ever again, for Westerners.
