Nana P. pricing itself out of the market?

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

After almost a year, a group of us went to the lower Suk area and also paid a visit to Soi 4.

At one point we visited the bar which is located right on the corner of the entry to Nana Plaza, a pub we used to go to in the past. It was eerily quiet. Having said that, once we ordered our beers and found out that the price for a small bottle of beer had gone up to 140 Baht, we were no longer really surprised about the lack of customers. 140 for a small beer in a "normal" bar? To those "in the know", how much do they charge in the proper Go-Go Bars at Nana? How much in the beer garden in the middle of it?

We were genuinely planning to have a few more rounds but when we saw the price we left the area after the first round. Is 140 "the new normal" one has to accept in that part of the world or are there better/cheaper options on Soi 4?

Cheers!

  • 7/11 and family mart are cheaper, maybe more your style.   If you can't afford 140 Baht a beer on a night out, maybe you should stay home

That equates to me as about 3 big bottles of Chang and a freebie with the wife

  • you go to a sex tourist/tourist area bar and complain about the price...  bangkok has more to offer than the sex industry, broaden your horizons

I just come back from Nana. Black Soda between 150 - 200B in many places.

Ladydrinks about 190B.

And if we like it or not these prices make sense. Because the rent in Nana it tremendous since a couple of years. Even with prices like now bars have a difficult time to make any money. I bet in the moment most of them make a loss.

And with lower prices they wouldn't make more money. Maybe more turnover but not more profit.

Wow, is the girl included in these prices ! Seriously, here in the S of France ( not the cheapest place to choose) a cocktail is 4/6 euros ,  and in  Italy late October we paid 4 euros a cocktail with great nibbles thrown in. I’m talking about nice bars, not the corner bistrot . Of course ,, if you go to the bar in a 5* hotel it’s probably more . These prices were actuel before we got all shut down.

I saw most of these girls, and a lot more, tonight. It was up to me how many of them I wanted to buy a drink.

I want to see any place in S of France where you can see so many sexy girls in one place - and play with them if you like.

Well done for voting with your feet. I remember 5 years ago having small bottles of Singha in the afternoon at country road, soi cowboy. Playing pool with a couple of friends when one of them said we're getting charged 180 baht!!!

We voted with our feet and did not leave any tip.

It has been more than a year I been to Soi 4, but I think I didn't have a single bottled beer below 100 Baht in the whole soi, haven't been to NanPlaza at all.

I think average price at that time was 120 Bht, and no gogo.

If you want cheap beer why don't you go to 7/11?

What's so difficult to understand about the fact that the bars want to make money? And they have huge fix costs every month, the whole year around.

No bar makes good money these days. As far as I know best case the bars break even in the moment - that's best case.

A lot of gogo bars in Nana Plaza offering 2 drinks for the price of 1 early in the week including that bar featured in the photo. I don't know the current prices but it's under 200 baht so 2 beers in a bar with sexy ladies like that sounds like a good deal to me.

Nothing more than a Facebook picture

I highly doubt anymore than 1-2 in this picture were actually there

been there

i call BS

lineups are dire at the moment

The business model and motto of many Thai business owners was always and still is to increase prices when business is bad or slow, i remember going to buy somethings from shops and notice items that have been on display for like eons years all faded and dusty but they still charge the price of a new one and would not budge so its not surprising to see that bar keeps are increasing their prices...

Fair enough but we are talking about bars that are pretty basic with minimal running costs apart from rent.

Please ask an insider about how much rent and key money these places pay. I know a few bar owners and I know some numbers and they are shocking. No, I won't publish them here.

Why not, you're an anonymous poster on an anonymous forum, if you've really got interesting, valid information why not share it?

That's novel, brasses that are "willing".   They wouldn't be there if they weren't willing.

I know the bar well, yes normal bar with  plenty of freelancers  its never been cheap it was about 80THB a bottle in mid 2000s

so 140 is not surprising in the slightest

Do you think the staff have anything to do with the price you paid for your beer?    The owner doesn't care if you leave a tip or not.

Why are you uncomfortable about  giving what information  you claim to  know in a general sense?

Guys here is how you have a good night out, put 10,000 baht in your pocket and go and spend it!! Your only worry should be, having to take your bank card as it might not be enough ????????

I am sure you know the principle of private and confidential information.

When a bar owner tells me these numbers and he asked me to keep that info private and confidential then I keep it private and confidential.

I can tell you I visited enough bars in the last 20 years in Thailand and I was still shocked by how much rent and key money they have to pay these days. Even in per-covid times they had to make a lot of money to pay these rents. And obviously it's not enough if they have a couple of busy Fridays and Saturdays. The rent has to be paid for every day. Also those empty Mondays and Tuesdays.

On a popular Pattaya vlogger's channel he made the trip up to Bangkok in August and was sitting with his Thai Partner in Big Dogs. During a conversation with staff it was mentioned that the rent alone was 500,000 Baht per month. This also took into consideration some upper floor rooms too. This ties in with conversations I've had with those in the bar-scene in Bangkok concerning the rents within Nana Plaza.

For the record On my last trip - December '19 - up in a soi 4 bar (in a certain bar-chain which continues to expand) I went to listen to a band and a small beer was coming in around 170 Baht.
