Is it possible that Thailand's numbers are so low due to lack of testing? Seems the highest percentage of covid cases are now asymptomatic or only producing very mild flu like symptom so perhaps these people are not going to hospital or paying for expensive covid testing?????

You hit the nail squarely on the head. No mass testing and no one really goes to a hospital here unless really ill.

Now Prayut wants to arrest and charge those who are sick and do not go to get tested or go to a hospital.  How many asymptomatics will be lining the jails soon.

If there were masses of asymptomatic people, there would also be masses of very sick people.  Current research suggest about 20% are asymptomatic.  That would mean 80% aren't, and many of these would end up in the hospital, where they would be tested.

We're not seeing masses of people in the hospitals.  Yet...

Right so that would be the illegal migrants coming to work for low pay in Thai owned businesses? Who’d be doing those jobs if they weren’t here?

A typical TVF xenophobic remark.

Why don't you tell us who has been responsible for keeping the numbers down?

Every government leader has responsibility for covid management and some should be collecting their P45.

You have made what is called a logical fallacy.

'If the government says the numbers are low, then they must have done a great job keeping them low'

We can see how ridiculous this logic is when we think about it. Well, unless we are the types who disbelieve and distrust our own governments (which are far more transparent) but somehow believe and trust governments in totally underdeveloped countries like Thailand. Weird

This latest flare-up of infections in Samut Sakhon is primarily due to such illegal immigrants and they have brought much grief to the country," he said in a statement, parts of which he read in a televised address.

They have brought grief to the country.... meaning the migrants ?

Your leaky borders, your less than innocent border guards, your Thai smugglers, your company owners who give employment to illegals... lets have the truth for once.

The blame stops with Thailand !!!!

when i come to Thailand  i want to see thai and thai culture not be served by a Burma

CV19 testing is free for locals.  They produce about 150,000 tests kits every month here.  So far, they've done a great job with the virus.  I'm glad I'm here and not back home!

Your quick enough to jump on other peoples posts and give them a hard time why dont you prcatice what you preach and stop B/S ing ?

I very much agree. Prayuth is a small Trump - or vice-versa! Trump is claiming that the recent election was a fraud, and voting by mail was insecure. Now, wasn't it up to him and his administration to make the elections 100 % water proof over the 4 years he was in charge? Well, we all know they were, but the easiest way to talk yourself out of responsability is to blame others - same as Prayuth is doing now.

what about those 12 or more thai nationals come from Myanmar  with out doing 14 days quarantine

What a predictably Xenophobic and racist statement coming from this Government.

Do not blame these people from Myanmar, or any other Country for the present outbreak of Covid in Thailand. The blame sits firmly at the Door of this Government, and every other Government previously.

Illegal Migration has been condoned, and to a certain extent encouraged so that the Business Community get their Grubby Mitts on  cheap Labour that can be exploited for Profits and pure Greed.

The Immigrant Labour are only trying to feed their Families, and work in Thailand often under the pressure of Low Wages, Poor Working Conditions, and Living Quarters that are not fit for Animals.

If it was not for the Traffikers and the demand from the Business Sector, these People would not even be here, and now to lock them away under the " Singapore Model " is nothing short of Inhumane.

The " Singapore Model " is to Lock these people in their Rooms ? Dormitories.

We are not talking 5 Star Hotels here, but maybe a 3 x 3 M Tin Shed sleeping 6 with little or no ventilation or Light.

The EU have it right to Target these practices in Thailand. Its Modern Day Slavery.

probably self self winding , so plenty of wrist action needed.

so many holes in this one, factory owners and managers are unaware of the status of their workers?isnt that against the law?the borders are controlled by thai immigration,so theres the problem, how did burma originally become infected?it has borders with covid pos countries. the 1st two, china and here, china is a dictatorship that closed down internally before it stopped exporting the virus so.....it is very capeable of stopping lots of things ask hk and the uighers.so infection was in burma from here and china and has re entered ahh kharma.thais wont do these jobs as the wages are poor and the burmese are treated in an appalling way, remember the brit journo who reported abuse and the company tried to sue him?we can see from the report the PM is part of this racist oratory and the rest i think most of you have put together already

Due to the large borders that Thailand has, controlling illegal immigration is nigh on impossible. This has been exacerbated by the benefits of cheap migrant labour that has only been half-heartedly discouraged.

But did i not read that Thai's came across a porous border after meeting some Generals at a den of iniquity, there was a song some years back "the house of the rising sun" comes to mind.

As usual, it's the foreigners. Thailand could well look at the UK when deciding is it worth a Thexit of its own to ensure the pure blood of good, hardworking Thais and a ban on foreigners who are ultimately responsible for the country's woes.

...Sarcasm'R'Us

Fortunately with the immigration police smart BMW the problem will be solved in a few days.....................

smedly, that was last week, but they were Thai need bigger fish now, there is no telling where this is going to stop, could the cat have got out of the bag?

There seems to be a problem amongst the commenters in distinguishing  'immigration' from 'migration'. The OP is clear on this terminology in the very first sentence. Immigration is a legal , government-controlled process. Here is the only use of the word 'immigration' in the OP:

'At least a dozen infected Thai nationals are also known to have returned from Myanmar in the last month without passing through immigration or undergoing quarantine.'

Also, the title uses the term: 'illegal migration', not 'illegal immigration'.

it's like road accidents, they are not caused by your corrupts rats in uniform who just want cash !
