Anutin champions the wearing of face masks once again - everything is under control

Thailand's DPM and health minister Anutin Charnvirakul has once again told the public to continue to wear face masks.

The pandemic's early days featured the minister famously criticising a foreigner who wouldn't accept his offer of a free mask.

Yesterday at health ministry HQ he was attempting to calm everyone as the country faces a renewed outbreak of Covid-19.

He held up a mask and declared that "covering the face means not closing down the country"

(This was a play on words in the Thai language regarding the word "pit" to cover and to close).

He also said that "observing social distancing would mean you wouldn't have to be treated for the disease".

(This was a play on the word "raksaa" used for both treating and observing).

His mantra was once again a call for 100% mask wearing, social distancing and hand washing.

He also took a swipe at fake news saying that people should get their news from official sources to avoid stressing themselves out and causing the authorities unnecessary stress and the need to combat erroneous reports.

He said that the public could have total faith in the health authorities and their efficiency rejecting suggestions to the contrary. Everyone in the public health arena is pulling out all the stops to treat those infected and protect the rest.

Regarding the movement of workers (principally migrants) he said that was a matter for the police, military and Labour Ministry.

Yeah, but he's from the construction business! He should have a hard hat on, not the little green doctor's emblem on his shirt.  If anything gives me a lack of faith in Thailand's response to COVID, it's this guy.

Ah irony oh Health Guru MD minister. How about wearing one while promoting its use? So many photo op pictures in stories about Covid but those in front of the camera must have their faces visible.

Who's gonna tell him that holding the mask is not the ideal use?

I don't like the guy one bit but come on, there is no one anywhere near him and he is giving a briefing and needs to be heard clearly.

Yep, it’s time to panic.

Perhaps he's using the same logic of those motorcyclists who have their helmet in the front basket?

Unlike more advanced countries like the UK.    Luckily there we have Matt Hancock an extremely talented, capable, and experienced, erm, software salesman with absolutely no background or experience in the medical industry.

How can it be under control, minister, when you are surrounded by new infections daily? You can fool some of the people some of the time, but.........................................................!

Mask wearing is essential. As is mass testing, tracing and being honest with the people.

People do wear masks.

Never understood why people ramble on about "Thailand not doing any testing".  They test when they need to.  When there is an outbreak they track, trace and test.  In this case they are doing tens of thousands of tests.  What more do you want?  Do you think they should just set up random testing points and pull people off the streets to test them?

Like it or not Thailand is doing a much better job than many places in the world - UK, US etc.

Unfortunately, 'they test when they need to' is akin to playing, catch up....chasing your tail. Much better to get ahead of the game and test all possible, in which case you're not following the trail, but stopping the trail before it gets there.

Well, if Anuthin, the "Pesky Farang Slayer" tells me, that everything is "under control", THEN I fear it's time to really get worried...

and if current PM will resign, this fine gentleman will became a next Thailand Prime Minister

What like the less than accurate figures put out about roadkill in the daily highway deathfest .. or the  changing " safe limits " for the equally dangerous air pollution issue's ..

Just look at this Poet cum Scholar! With these extremely quotable phrases he has left the Toad-kissing PM on the sidelines for public admiration. Rumour has it Prayut is not liking this new development at all.

Matt (Tony) Hancock, incompetent plonker, totally out of his depth.

Please vote for him in Colin's P.O.T.Y. poll.

It's a close-up picture - you do not know if there is anyone directly out of frame.

The message needs to be consistent - wearing masks helps reduce the chance of spread, and as health minister he should be No.1 in line to be promoting their usage in any public situation.

Sitting there without one while telling others to wear them is sending the wrong message.

I hardly think having a mask on during the press-call will make his words unintelligible.

Hold your horses pal; are you not the DPM and Health Minister.

Is it not your duty to show leadership and instruct these government resources of how to mitigate COVID infections by the placement and movement of these migrant workers.

Or is this more buck passing; get the monkey off my back!

Well, until we see the next occasion of Anutin and his entourage doing exactly the opposite what he dictates the commoners to do. Which is now the rage in elite circles it seems.
Force the commoners to wear masks, social distance, stay home.
Then...
Find themselves on social media maskless and having parties.
Because honestly - who sanctions those who can not be sanctioned? <and they laugh, and laugh, and laugh to you commoners>
One standard for the commoners and serfs.
A different standard for the elite and the ruling class.
