I'm no lawyer, but pretty sure a good one could come up with severe federal charges on this on.  Stunning his supporters are OK with this.  Proves how bad they are if they support this BS.

  • Sad times when people question the reliability of sites like WaPo.  And fall for the conspiracy theories on fake news websites.  Stunning.

  • I'm curious to know which excuse his supporters will find, this time.

Still requires 2/3 of Senate to convict....not enough

Thank you for that clarification, I didn't know that.  I assumed that in a democracy that a simple majority would suffice.

Which is  exactly why there is a declination to concede to Trump's suggestions ! In essence Trump's suggestions in the face of  no verifiable  evidence could be viewed as an extortionist attempt  to commit such an offense.

This tape seems like an example of Trump in general. You have to ask yourself if he is actually dumb and believes the conspiracy theories or if he knows they are bogus and is just really making a threat.

But he seems smart enough to  possibly not cross the line into having actually committed a crime.

So as normal you ask:

Is Trump just dumb, or a bit corrupt and a bit dumb, or corrupt and smart. Either way it's a bad outcome for Team Trump.

Smart and 45 should never be in the same sentence.

Begs a question.

What’s in the transcripts of Trump’s calls to Hungary and Russia that he’s been so careful to hide from the public.

We may soon find out.

It's on the internet. As is the transcript.

CNN has obtained the full January 2 audio call between President Donald Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. Trump is joined on the call by White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and several lawyers.

CNN obtained the audio from a source who was on the call and had direct knowledge of the conversation. CNN has redacted the name of one individual about whom Trump made unsubstantiated claims.

Here is the full transcript of the hour-long call.

https://edition.cnn.com/2021/01/03/politics/trump-brad-raffensperger-phone-call-transcript/index.html

Reading, or listening to, the whole call DEFINITELY does not make it seem like anything other than what it is, a shakedown.

"Nice peaches ya got there, be a shame if something happended to them."

Trump  simply continues  to use the same tactics he always has. Wear down objection or resistance to comply with his perspective of "winning". Never concede, just drag  litigation on and on .

That was a felony that Trump committed right there.  Hard to see how the Biden DoJ can justify giving him a pass on it.

Yeap, and he clearly violated Georgia election laws, i.e., cannot be pardoned.

Just listened to a 4 minute audio on this call provided by the WP.  Trump is just telling them the truth.  As far as Trump looking bad on this call, it's a nothing burger.

Have faith my friend!!!!!Trump will win!!!!

LOL.

There is a open  serious "allegation"  contained in the discussion. That video evidence  brought to a Court by Trump's legal team was doctored in an attempt  prove "fraud". Given that the  ongoing disputes are  State based rather than Federal then more than one person is pushing   odds on prosecution.

I'd hold off on judging the phone call until I heard the entire hour in context. Otherwise you fall into the same category as the dime-store pundits...

Not that I expect it to be much different but judging an hour long call on an edited 4-ish minutes is just stupid.

Long and very long versions being played on many news sites.

Although I'm not American I do favour policies, mostly, just right of centre, but what I read on other news this morning about Pres. Trump, I thought was a stupid move. If he does want to be a candidate in 4 years time, I would think such a move does not help his chances. In addition to that, the US needs to get some stability, Left or Right, doesn't matter because with a few people in the US now showing the new so called UK mutant strain it has to be 'all hands on deck', as it were. The other problem is that with China appearing to 'pick fights' with several countries the US need to keep a lose eye on that too. And before I get hammered by other members, If, and I do say if, J. Biden and his administration are sympathetic or unconcerned towards China, then the US people will find out soon enough.

Pres. Trump has previously made his stance very clear but imho it is time for him to step aside and let others, agreeing with his stance, to continue investigation etc. Like it or not the USA has been the major power centre in the world and I for one, would like to see that continue.

Seems the White House is considering suing Raffensperger for recording and disclosing Trump's phone call.

But ....

Georgia has a One Party Consent Law.

A person can "tap" their own phone and record the call without permission of the person to whom they are talking.

Same as D.C.

White House should know this.

I suspect Raffensperger realizes that Trump has made it impossible for him to be renominated so he decided to take Trump down with him.

"So look. All I want to do is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have. Because we won the state," Trump said in the recording, insisting that there was "no way" he lost the state.

Ok, there we have it, evidence of voter fraud.

He's not.  Only you and other Trump supporters falsely believe it because your 'leader' said so.

No. I am saying judging anything on an edited clip, out of context, from any source, is insane.

That said, I have now read the transcript and it is clear that a desperate person is trying to strong-arm members of his own party into "finding" votes while they are firmly trying to educate him on reality.

52 U.S.C. §  20511

A person who in any election for Federal office-

(2) knowingly and willfully deprives, defrauds, or attempts to deprive or defraud the residents of a State of a fair and impartially conducted election process by-

          (B) the procurement, casting, or tabulation of ballots that are known by the person to be materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent under the laws of the State in which the election is held, shall be fined or imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both.

The new AG is going to have yet another charge to bring against 45. The Dem House, in session as of yesterday, should initiate another impeachment today, as 45's behavior clearly violates Federal statutes.

45 may well have bought himself yet more time behind bars.
