I will be happy when Donald is in jail for what he did.  He is such a liar, no morals, and brainwashing a group of Americans to believe that only they are true Americans.    They talked about the Capitol building as being theirs.   This was Americans against other Americans, and there was no reason for them to get inside the Capitol building , where the government of America works.   Everyone who was on the capital building who was part of Trumps mob, should be arrested and face fines, and jail time, No exceptions. There were people killed because of all of them.

If he had behaved decently during the transition he could have gone a long way towards building sentiment against post presidential legal exposure. Americans don't normally want to see our presidents in jail.

But he went the other way bigly.

The majority American sentiment is now make him face consequences.for the first time in his life.

At no time in his life was decent behavior ever a possibility with Trump.  That's what it means to be a psychopath.  To a psychopath like Trump there are no other people in the world, just him.  The others are just things to be manipulated whether by charm or intimidation to give him what he wants.  Psychopaths do not change.  They neither grow out of their mental illness, nor are they ever cured by treatment of any kind.  That's who they are.  

 

The good news from Wednesday's coup attempt is that the Democratic base will force Biden/Garland to prosecute Trump.  For that purpose it is crucial that Trump not resign as some of the politicians are calling for, because then Pence might give him an unbreakable pardon.  Much better for Trump to pardon himself which will be tested by a federal criminal indictment and which will not be sustained by the Supreme Court.

I object to the talking heads focusing on the Capitol building as the object of the attack.  The object of the attack was the 535 members of Congress.  There is some evidence that some of the attackers intended to murder members of Congress and the Vice President.  To describe that as an invasion of the Capitol fails to do justice to the true nature of the attack.

You are exactly right.  They were going after members of congress.  And some here condoned that!  That's about as unpatriotic as it gets...as well as disgusting.

 

They're getting read for the 17th.  Hopefully, more of these MAGA nuts will end up in jail.  And more members of the GOP biting the dust.  Hawley's toast, they're asking for his resignation in Texas.

You're trolling.  That was never the intent of the mostly peaceful BLM protests.  Far right extremists were much more involved than Antifa, though use of that name is a dog whistle for the alt right crowed.

 

And by the way, they never broke into the capitol and threatened members of congress.  Leaving behind pipe bombs, dozens of weapons, and 5 dead.  Including one police member.

I grew up around D.C., I've rubbed elbows with some of those self-important people on occasion.  Trump is a jerk, but many of these others are pure evil in the grand scheme of things.

I spent a bit of time with a governor when he was running for reelection.  Kinda like a robot.  Take him from place to place, say the same speech, then move on to the next.  Not much was said in between.  Not a job I'd want!!!!

In the US psychopaths constitute about 1% of the population, but 4% of the upper echelons of corporations.  It's probably at least that for politicians.  Since psychopaths are driven by a need to dominate other people politics is going to be a magnet for them.  Nixon and JFK were probably both psychopaths.  

 

Please do not edit my quotes to impose your own taste for bad grammar on my writing.  "There are no other people in the world, just him," is correct in every sense of both grammar and politics.

These are not mutually exclusive events. 
At the time of the BLM protests, many on this forum who supported the protests (myself included) also condemned the violence and looting. However it became very clear there were two different events going on; during the day it was peaceful protests that was then taken over at night by criminals and opportunists. This is VERY different. 
Spurred  on by an increasingly desperate Ex-POTUS, this mob was hell bent on causing trouble from the start and as news continues to leak out and more footage seen, it seems that destruction of property and disruption to the count was not the only thing on the agenda. If given the chance, I firmly believe they would have lynched any person (including Pence) they could have got their grubby hands on. 

This false equivalency the Trump fans continue to come out with is neither accurate nor helpful; your lot condoned rioting and looting therefore it should be fine for our lot to do the same. Here’s some news for you, neither is ok but if you want to draw a distinction, trying to overthrown a democratically elected government is waaaay worse.

He doesn't sound like he was a very skilled politician. The thing to do is to vary your speech depending on the crowd you're talking to. Nobody has said that politicians are ever saints but the current potus has revealed himself (though I knew it years ago) as the total opposite.
