TAT advocates "Sexy tours" for "quality tourists" to boost Thailand's recovery

I have enjoyed quite a few "sexy tours" during my first decade of living in the kingdom

But wait, I thought they said the "quality tourists" weren't the ones after the "sexy tours"! They only wanted the ones after the five star hotels, temples, diving, and golf courses! So now barfines and short times are ok?

My "sexy tour" period lasted only my first three months in the LOS. Funds were draining rapidly. Chicks who weren't worth it. Looking for jobs and getting nothing. Was considering going home when I finally landed one out in the boonies, and ran into a lovely lady working at a restaurant, who'd end up becoming my wife.

I am sure those "high spenders" are going to feel very sexy when they travel through thick smoke from miles and miles of burning fields, just seconds before their luxury van driver falls asleep behind

  • Dear oh dear, the bottom of the barrel is scraped.

  • Well, at least we know that Governor Yutthasak Suphasorn didn't get this position based on merit.

Quite clearly Thailand is confused regarding tourism. It seems the govt isn't sure if they want it or not, but since they as yet have no plan for what to do with millions of obviated tourist industry workers or thousands of what might be unnecessary hotels, they have to keep tossing out trial balloons, most of which seem to be based on some over-inflated view of the attractiveness of their country to well-heeled visitors.

They also seem to be of a misplaced view that the uber wealthy are above having prurient interests and wouldn't be attracted to what has actually made Thailand famous throughout the world (hint: it's not the food or the temples). Having been on the buy-side of Wall Street, and been courted and entertained by firms where many employees earn 8 figures per year, I know from experience that the well-heeled have every bit an interest in in pay-for-play as anyone, and perhaps an even greater appetite, because money has already filled all their other needs. Money does not change human nature; it often exacerbates certain parts of it, like the urge to procreate or at least get in some practice.

I suspect these trial balloons continue to be spewed until such time as the Covid Crisis fades away, at which point it will be back to business-as-usual with Suvarnabhumi being filled with backbackers, Chinese tour groups, sexpats, Russian families, and all of the exact same people who made up the tourists pre-Covid.

Plus ça change

The wife wants to buy a luxury handbag. The same Gucci bag that she likes is $3,500 in Singapore, London, New York, Paris, Hong Kong, or Dubai. In Bangkok that bag sells for $9,000.

Thai airways stewardesses could probably help you out... but  hurry they may not be flying  much  longer.

when all else fails bring in the hookers and lady boys to kick start the economy even if prostitution is not legal here

Funny. When I used to date, the two absolute prerequisite questions were:

1. What is the most money you have ever spent on a handbag?

2. So, what kind of relationship to you have with your mom, dad and siblings?

Wow. Talk about calling them out. The stuff that can be gleaned from the answer to those two simple questions is priceless. The number of second dates that never happened due to their answers were countless!

What's his definition of a "High spender" i wonder...

Where does TAT get these idiots? Recent releases for the Funny Farms or Prision's?

Oh dear, but where will they get the workers of any gender to "service "the tourists of any gender for a "sexy tour" when prostitution is illegal?

This service could be offered the moment you board the plane a quick ham shank under the blanket

The guy's heart clearly isn't in this campaign, or he'd be wearing a fetish mask instead of a face visor, lol...

You mean "quality tourists" can't find Pattaya Walking Street, etc., without being taken there on tour.

Does that mean they'll be heading straight to the GoGo bars in Cowboy then Pattaya?

He was definitely not referring to an image of the country from yesteryear but a brave new way forward to attract "quality tourists".

Your phrase 'brave new' makes me think of Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. A frightening idea.

Will the Alpha and Beta quality tourists be herded around to see the Epsilons doing their menial work?

Hmm... will all high-spending male arrivals be greeted with the the time-honored traditional phrase, "Hello, sexy man!", I wonder.

Handsome man

????????????

These people are just too funny. "Sexy tourism". Hahahahahaha

And just how is that different from sex tourism?

I thought they'd diversified into street food now? I suppose even doing that, they may not be frying much longer.

Good more space in the Go-Go's for those that want to go there, assume he's going to take them round Isan then to see all the bar girls that have gone home for the duration of Covid, as per previous tourism proposal by TAT, and most of their proposals are just that TAT or rubbish.

Same same but different.

The $9,000 one has a touch of Chinese flair.

Ha ha ha ha , somebody is waking up to what Thai tourism is all about , bar girls and prostitution are OK now .

I guess they will have to hurriedly renovate Pattaya's Walking Street , sponsor people to open the bars and get everything functioning as before .

It's amazing how low they will stoop when they are desperate! Can't wait for the do gooders to harp on about what this will do for the "Image of the Country"! ????

This country was built on low stooping and is a time honoured Thai tradition good to see Thailand returning to it's roots!
