Just rising above the EU pettiness to help out an old friend. We'll be doing a lot more business with Australia now we've left the EU and Global Britain is always happy to lend a helping hand to genuine partners.

It also does the EU a favour by allowing them to keep a few more vaccines to help them out of their self inflicted, incompetent mess. They need every single one they can get.

The EU is Australia's second largest trading partner....don't imagine they will be in a rush to "queer their pitch" by being too quick to sign a trade deal with the UK.

I doubt even the EU would be petty and vindictive enough to stop trading with countries that sign a deal with the UK.

If they are, given the fantastic job that Liz Truss is doing signing deals around the world, they're going to have a very long list of countries that they won't be trading with.

Taking into account the fact that vaccine supply is not extensible on short term and that there are still Brits waiting to be vaccinated, what is the UK government going to do (in case it does anything, it seems It's just a rumour at this moment)?

Divert supplies initially intended for UK citizen to Australia?

Australia already has more vaccines than it needs. This is an anti EU story manufactured by the British anti EU press.

All easily resolved... We simply tear up the agreement, that your lot can't even get around to ratifying anyway, and let the genuine traders do business on WTO terms, and go fish in your own waters.

Yes, let's prove to the countries we are so desperate to sign trade deals with that we can't be trusted!

Most of those deals are simply roll overs of those we had when EU members; so nothing new there.

UK trade agreements with non-EU countries

The Japanese deal grants us the crumbs the EU didn't want!

Is the UK's trade deal with Japan better than the EU's?

Quote

The Department for International Trade (DIT) estimated the 2019 EU-Japan trade deal would add somewhere between £2.1 billion and £3.0 billion to the UK’s annual GDP after 15 years in 2017 prices, relative to a scenario where no deal was agreed. Its central estimate was £2.6 billion.

That’s around £1.1 billion higher than the GDP increase estimated as a result of the new deal.

Although, as the article says, the DIT are saying different calculation methods were used so the figures are not comparable.

But here's more

Quote

the UK reportedly wanted to receive quotas for some agricultural products which could be exported with a lower tariff than normal. Instead the UK will be able to use whatever’s left over from the EU’s quota with Japan, potentially putting UK exporters at a disadvantage.

A total of 34m doses of coronavirus vaccine have been exported from the EU despite shortages for people living in the bloc, including 9m sent to the UK and 1m to the US, which has a ban on sales abroad.

Quote

According to the latest figures seen by the Guardian and accurate as of 9 March, of the 34,090,287 doses exported from the EU to 31 countries, 9,106,162 went to the UK, 3,917,640 to Canada, 3,134,204 to Mexico, 2,720,210 to Japan and 1,368,900 to Saudi Arabia. Other beneficiaries of EU exports included Hong Kong (1.3m), Singapore (967,030), the US (953,723), Chile (942,825) and Malaysia (751,140)..

Now how many doses of vaccine did the UK export yet ?

Or is the UK's usefulness to the world on vaccine in line with the 50% cut from the overseas aid budget?

Introduction postponed until 2022 because border post infrastructure will not be ready in time

The UK government has been forced to delay the introduction of import checks by six months, in a U-turn in post-Brexit policy, because a network of 30 border posts being built to process incoming goods would not have been ready on time.

Exports to the EU from Britain have been subject to controls since 1 January, but the government decided to opt for a phased approach on EU imports to give hauliers and business more time to adapt.

Checks were due to be introduced in stages from 1 April and from 1 July, but in recent days traders and ports have said they are not ready and that the introduction of processes as originally planned could lead to empty supermarket shelves.

This non-cooperative strategy, is not a strategy adapted to the situation.

Anyone, an explanation?

I've never yet come across a contract that has the word trust used in any of it's vocabulary.

Further more, if the EU don't sign it, it's null and void.

Thank you for the further evidence of the EU's ineptitude, since I presume these exports of the vaccine manufactured within the EU territory are honouring the orders contracted prior to the EU getting their act together.

Nice bit of propaganda there at the end, since you don't identify any of the EU produced vaccines as having been donated by the EU to underdeveloped countries.

The UK's foreign aid programme has, historically, surpassed any of the EU nations commitment.

The answer was in the post you truncated.

That was not an answer! It was a statement of where AZ chose to invest their money, not the EU's money, to expand their facilities. Or are you suggesting the EU's late order payment was a direct contribution to the development of the AZ production facilities in Europe? In which case back it up with facts.

Official statistics showed on Friday a precipitous 40.7 per cent fall in goods sales to the EU in January....FACT

Frost, blamed the effect of pre-Christmas stockpiling by businesses and Covid lockdowns reducing the demand for goods on the continent.......LIES

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed no similar falls in Britain’s trade with non-EU countries, in apparently firm evidence that Brexit red tape was to blame.....FACT

Brexit is not going to be, it already is, an unmitigated disaster.
