Being chaperoned around Thailand with an official from the TAT or the Health Department sounds like a true dream vacation. Might as well add in tours of the local hospitals, clinics, and government offices to boot! Lots of fun to be had by all.

A covid vaccination, using one of the top vaccines, like the Pfizer or the Moderna one, should be adequate. The authorities should be begging the tourists to come. Free, unlimited visas, 10,000 baht hotel vouchers, and free meal vouchers. Our people are out of work. We really need you. An immigration officer will come to your hotel to renew your visa, if you decide to extend your stay, to show our appreciation for your support. Half price air tickets for domestic travel. Princely treatment. Thank you so much for helping to rescue our economy and our people.

Then I awake and look around me
At four grey walls that surround me
And I…  Well - you know the rest (Tom Jones Green Green Grass of Home)

Well that's been the best laugh I've had today so far ????????????

The current 15 nights is excessive.  Pr-flight test then 2 or 3 nights pending 1 arrival test would prevent vast majority of international

Add vaccination and it is even better very good news coming out of Israel on the throat/nasal viral load on post vaccinated infection, it is negligible.

So if you don't take the vaccine it's 14 day quarantine still? I'll go to Kenya instead, just a negative PCR to enter there.

Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are not available on demand. They still have to figure out how to scale the production for their home countries. Thailand should be considering both, Oxford/ Astra Zenica or Sputnik from Russia.

I am a Finnish basic engineering. My decisions at work are based on risks or benefits. The risks and rewards are based on data and risk calculations. This should be the same as assessing how foreigners can arrive in Thailand. I work in China. In China, Covid-19 infections are under control. I live in Hangzhou, near Shanghai, where over about half a year in this region (approximately 50 million people) have only been sporadic infections. When I travel to Thailand the risk of bringing a new infection to Thailand would be incredibly small, virtually non-existent. I would also be ready for a home quarantine in my own house. Then I would be with my wife and two children after one year of separation. Now forget me and my family. When decisions are made, they need to be based on data-based risk analysis, not what one feels. Any entry restrictions must be based on a country-by-country risk assessment or in this way Thailand can open the country to tourism. So first low risk countries welcome tourist from Australia, New New Zealand, Chiana,  Taiwan,  South -Korea etc to Thailand. "bad boys can waiting for until pandemia is under control"

and stay there because no country will let you back in after that.

even a test was developed that provided an instant negative covid result at the airport they would still require a quarantine

sounds ridiculous, but then so are visa runs $$$

They have the lateral test that 'apparently' gives a result in 30 minutes, but is under intense pressure for its reliability - just like the PCR test as per stated by the British Medical Journal.

Maybe best wait until all other countries are vaccinated

Including Thailand

Then start thinking about disposing of Quarantine restrictions

There is still the airlines to think of as not many flying

To many ifs and buts ?

Will you have to provide Immigration with a photo of you quarantining at your home? And a hand-drawn map of where your home is?

What a load of garbage. It should end 1st of April 2026. Sorry I forgot it is an early April fools day post

He died with covid a few months ago.

Eliminating quarantine will not induce foreigners to come flooding back to Thailand. The government needs to view the prospect of visiting Thailand from the perspective of foreign governments who won't want their citizens to go to countries who have not established herd immunity. That means they might come if 70% of the Thai residents have been inoculated. I hear rumours that the Chinese Government may ban their people coming before herd immunity is achieved. No country wants their citizens to return from abroad with a high prospect of their bringing the virus back with them.

If I ever need a brain transplantation I would like to have of brain of these men.. Than I am sure they are never used and brand new..

Yeah, but they are the size of a raisin.

Another balloon launched by TAT. None of the others have been approved by the health ministry, why should this be different?

Let’s look at a Modified Quarantine for special groups.  The concept is to bring back the economy in stages.

- Initially address the Vaccinated, Retired, Employed, Educator, etc visa holders.

- Shorten the Quarantine time to 5 days, 4 nights, 2 COVID tests, followed by 2 weeks of Self-Quarantine

- Self-Quarantine is enforceable by both people and technology.

- It has an immediate impact on the economy with a limited danger of spreading of the virus.

- It can be rolled out to select groups: the Retired, Employed, Educator, etc, that have been Vaccinated

- It’s a Win/Win/Win for the Government, the unemployed locals and the disgruntled foreigner.

This should be questioned, analyzed, addressed.

Also, anal swabbing has shown to get better results.  The Chinese are using it more frequently.

They could set up a tented area when you get off the plane here and have everyone bend over.

Apparently, the swab is only inserted about 2 inches so not too painful.

“If we add anal swab testing, it can raise our rate of identifying infected patients,” Li Tongzeng, an infectious-disease specialist at Beijing You’an Hospital, said on state-run broadcaster CCTV on Sunday.

The alarmists are still going hard at it while Covid is retreating in most parts of the world - including US and UK where daily cases are less than a third what they were just 6 weeks ago. Check out the world graphs as well as individual countries.. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

And hot off the press from well regarded Professor Makary, School of Medicine at John Hopkins University, who claims the back has finally been broken and herd immunity in the US could be as early April/May... https://www.wsj.com/articles/well-have-herd-immunity-by-april-11613669731?mod=flipboard

I expect the Thais are plugged into the real world, at least when it comes to Covid, while the media continues to feast on whatever doom stories they can drag up. The UK strain being 70% more contagious was a good one - wrong... "The UK strain is not 70 per cent more infectious. It’s not even 50 per cent more infectious, the latest widely quoted figure. According to the most authoritative source of data on the detailed epidemiology of transmission risk, the UK government executive agency Public Health England, a person who is infected with the UK strain of coronavirus will pass the virus on to 14.7 per cent of their close contacts. To be clear, the UK strain is more infectious. Somebody infected with the original Wuhan strain is likely to pass the virus to 11 per cent of their close contacts, according to Public Health England. That means the UK strain is roughly 34 per cent more infectious than the original strain." And it also means very little if UK cases have dropped so much this year ????

Bravo if the Thais relax quarantine in April and stop worrying, you'll be fine ????

If they really want to get back foreign tourism, the THB would need to be put at a realistic rate say US$1 for 30THB. Not to mention the waive of various visa hassles for retirees and expats.

'...will get the nod from April 1st????????????

The date... No way!

This is a comedy wind up troll post, right?

I don't see this happening until there is vaccination plan in place and until the virus variant is better understood. If a more infectious or deadly version of the virus spread in Thailand there would be tens of thousands dying every month like in Africa.

Africa does not have a huge number of deaths - especially not compared to Europe or the Americas. Yesterday 461 deaths - more than 4000 in Europe

Cases in south Africa are dropping like a stone - even with the new variant.

so not tourists (e, will still have to do 14+ days, but tourists only 2 days (probably to wait for a reliable negative results) and let go to any unprepared hotel or let go to mix with a large group of fellow tourists and travel across the country for sightseeing.

and that in the country, which doesn't have a single dose of vax for it's population (bar some 100k front medical workers).

it will be full failure

Who said the expatriates, workers, businessmen and repatriated Thai's are not included? I think your splitting hairs that aren't there. As long as they get vaccinated and complete a 14 day at home quarantine where they are coming from I am sure they will be included...
