Well known Thai disc jockey Techin Ploypetch, alias DJ Matoom, was sentenced to one month in prison and fined 10,000 baht today (Friday), with the prison term suspended for one year, after he was found guilty by Bangkok South District Court of violating the Emergency Decree.

Techin was charged with holding a birthday party on January 9th and 10th in a hotel room on Sathorn Road, with more than 30 guests in attendance who consumed alcohol, did not wear face masks or maintain social distancing.

Nine of the party goers were later found to be infected with COVID-19, including Techin.

Suspended sentence. 10,000 baht fine. Oh, the horror.

Good thing he wasn't picking mushrooms.

None of the "more than 30 guests" were charged?

... and he just gets a slap on the wrist?

make a case and let them all pay for a hospital treatment.

they broke the rules, got infected, posed threat to the others.

hundreds or thousands people had to be traced and tested.

each test cost some 3k.

all of them are rich. Not many people are able to rent a rooftop bar in a 5* hotel for an exclusive use

this guy was extending his stay in hospital, even after getting negative, because he was scared of police interrogation.

in the meantime he was trying to bribe police to swing proceedings.

he did say yesterday, that organising party was the most costly life mistake - it means, he had to pay police a large amount. Possibly not only alcohol, but also drugs were used

So the other week this party had led to 24 cases, this week 9. The party that was busted on the island everyone was handed this punishment, but here only one, and they know who the other attendees were. Law for hiso vs loso and he was only charged after ongoing public interest. Would be interesting to see how many brown envelopes were handed out.

Cheers

I thought I read there were 2 (or maybe 3) other high profile people at the party that would not be named.

If not named then how did contact tracing happen for them?
