Over 55’s set to receive 5,000 baht each to travel in Thailand

Thai media reported on the latest schemes to stimulate the devastated tourism sector.

They come from the TAT governor Yutthasak Suphasorn and the minister for tourism and sports Pipat Ratchakitprakan.

Yutthasak's latest brainwave is to use remains of the "Let's Travel Together" budget for a new plan.

"Oldies Travel Thailand " or "Thiaw Thai Wai Kao".

This would provide 5,000 baht for a million people to travel on group tours.

It would cost the government 5 billion baht and is expected to be considered this week.

Not to be outdone, Pipat is proposing vaccinating 50,000 tourism industry personnel and staff with a first dose of vaccine.

This would be done in places like Chiang Mai, Chonburi, Phuket, Krabi, Phangnga, Koh Tao and Koh Samui.

Pipat is also mulling an "Area Quarantine" idea whereby tourists would stay at a resort but be able to move around.

This seemed remarkably similar to "Villa Quarantine" in all but name, notes Thaivisa.

The minister did not stop there.

He has also contacted the Thai finance minister for soft loans to be provided to operators in the industry, sources suggest.

More money out of the empty coffers. Read before they are solving the problem at the same time, with letting people get deeper in debt. ????

Is this open to expats too? I see for once it doesn't specifically mention 'Thais'.

Or have i been smoking too much product from the government ganja scheme?

The free lunch is only 1000THB for expats!

How many Thai over 55's can afford to travel? Just a 5,000 baht subsidy for the Hiso's and Middle class.

So they are encorouging the most at risk of serious covid-19 infections (older people) to go on group tours together. Did I read that right?

Pipat seems to do a lot of mulling... shame he can't do his own job.

I will be checking my mailbox often.....I am sure my 5,000 baht check should be here any day now...

Unfortunately the money will probably not be distributed fairly.

At the risk of being castigated, why not include expats?

If the purpose is to stimulate the tourism sector, doesn't our baht offer enough the same stimulation?

Same as you said but wanted to make the Cause and Effect crystal clear.

Submarines indeed. Next thing you know they'll be talking about a mission to the moon. ????

Moon rockets are already on the agenda, there have been many reports on it here on Thaivisa.

I'm sure it was a misprint in the original report which really should have said, 'moon cakes are on the menu'

Yeah, I know. About 6 weeks ago the gov announced a mission, within 5 years, to orbit the moon and return.

It's just such amusing hubris I can't forget it. The more you contemplate it the funnier it gets given the general state of technical skills here.

Personally I wouldn't get within ten miles of the launch or landing sites.

Delay , caused by a shortage of monkeys.

    Plan B.   Aliens / expats , galore ..

However  that said .  I have paid for Land and a House in the Kingdom .

Cheap Charlies , to the fore .

You will not be missed, sure ..555
