ANKARA (Reuters) - The fiancée of slain Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi called on Monday for Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to be punished after a U.S. intelligence report found he had approved the killing.

Khashoggi, a U.S. resident who wrote opinion columns for the Washington Post criticising Saudi policies, was killed and dismembered by a team linked to the crown prince in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

A U.S. intelligence report on Friday found the prince had approved the killing, and Washington imposed sanctions on some of those involved - but not Prince Mohammed himself. The Saudi government, which has denied any involvement by the crown prince, rejected the report's findings.

"It is essential that the crown prince... should be punished without delay," Hatice Cengiz said on Twitter. "If the crown prince is not punished, it will forever signal that the main culprit can get away with murder which will endanger us all and be a stain on our humanity."

U.S. President Joe Biden's administration on Friday imposed a visa ban on some Saudis believed involved in the Khashoggi killing and placed sanctions on others that would freeze their U.S. assets and generally bar Americans from dealing with them.

Asked about criticism of Washington for not sanctioning Prince Mohammed directly, Biden said an announcement would be made on Monday, but did not provide details, while a White House official suggested no new steps were expected.

"Starting with the Biden administration, it is vital for all world leaders to ask themselves if they are prepared to shake hands with a person whose culpability as a murderer has been proven," Cengiz said.

he did released the report however the very next day 3 important names were (without any explanation) removed from it and the most important person behind all of that mess, the prince himself, was/is not on the report.....same as Trump,  just another cover up

I disagree he’s not sucking up to that thug nor trying to give the whabi muslums nuclear technology like trump as distasteful as it is we must hold our noses and deal with that backward nation unfortunately

Am a little disappointed with Biden on that matter, during his campaign he said something and now he doesn't have the balls to follow up and he's letting a killer (MBS) on the loose... hope he's not playing Trump's game and bend over to the Saudi's

During the presidential campaign, Biden called Saudi Arabia a “pariah,” broadly promising to confront the Kingdom on its human rights record and end U.S. support for the Saudi-led military campaign in Yemen.

It’s a bit early for to proclaim Biden’s policy, the report has only just been submitted.

Let’s wait a little while longer.

that means closing our eyes to their daily human rights abuse and potential killings spree .... regardless of how backward nation they are, no one should allow them to walk the free lane, already to many "out of jail" free cards

WH Press Secretary Defends Choice Not To Punish Saudi Prince For Khashoggi Murder

When asked why, Psaki told CNN’s Dana Bash that the Biden administration believes there are “more effective ways to make sure this doesn’t happen again” and wanted “to leave room to work with the Saudis on areas where there is mutual agreement ― where there is national interest for the United States.”

What's so regrettable is that Khashoggi didn't take serious precautions. If so the Turks could have been listening in when the trouble started, or perhaps monitored the phone calls to Riyadh during the planning. Maybe they could have noticed the special flights coming in. Victims should not make it too easy.

Right so it’s the victims fault.

He didn’t outsmart the SA ‘security services’.

I realize that what I wrote sounds like "blame the victim", but that's not the point.  Khashoggi was a brilliant man who could easily have availed himself of help from the Turks. The Saudi "services" are not that smart, either. That can in fact be dangerous.

Trump's first foreign trip was to Riyadh, plus son-in-law Kushner counted MBS as "friend". Khashoggi knew this and knew the attitudes in Riyadh and the White House. Nonetheless he took the naked risk.
