Songkran in Thailand to go ahead next month - with some water splashing

 

 

Songkran festivities are set to go ahead next month, providing activities comply with measures put in place to limit the spread of COVID-19.

 

Yuthasak Supasorn, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand told Daily News that Songkran events will definitely be held in Thailand this year and that TAT plans to organise events to celebrate the Thai New Year.

 

The TAT chief said Songkran would take place between 10-15 April 2021.

 

Meanwhile, Sanook reported that the traditional water splashing activities will go ahead on Khaosan Road. 

 

Citing Culture Minister Itthiphol Kunplome, the event can go ahead providing strict disease control measures are in place. 

 

The government hopes the Songkran festival will boost domestic tourism and stimulate the beleaguered economy.

For everyone's sake, especially for CM, let these dinosaurs who need to be sent packing and be displaced allow the festivities to happen. Not just from an economical stance, but for the general public's need for a happy release. Open season to the people from the country for where the virus came form. Send a message back to their leaders. 

Remember to keep your distance and wear those masks.

 

Also drive carefully over that long holiday.

Message to large crowds equipped with guns and hoses and the inevitable infusion of booze and very loud! music: "Okay everyone, have just a little bit of fun but not too much, cos some crusty old bureaucrats said so!" ????

There'll be dancing in our village for sure. We've beaten the virus twice now and we're champing at the bit for a bit of traditional fun.

good news as far as I am concerned. 

 

 

I usually just left the country for a week or two during this festival of state-sanctioned bastardry - unfortunately that's not an option now.

 

By all means limit it to defined areas (which I could avoid) - but there is nothing "fun" about having a bucket of (dirty) water thrown over you as you try and get home with your shopping.

Didn't they say the same thing last year?

 

If they say it they often do the exact opposite.

 

The odds for a 'normal' Songkran are not looking good, as far as I'm concerned it ain't going to happen.

Play Songkran keep distance, get wet and sick and a week later we have a lockdown again...Good for the economy.. but the vaccins are coming in JUne maybe

Just remember a little water will go a long way in the dry season, especially with the drought.  But then like the indiscriminate burning do you really think they care.....Money, Money, M.........Money!!!

This means 5-25 April in Pattaya leading inevitably to the beach disappearing followed by long periods of drought and double the number of Covid infections.

Had pouring rain in lower Isaan for the past 2 days, looks like more coming ... so I will fill our water canons with pure  'Pla Duk' and 'Pĕd' poop pond water, and douse the village elders with it.????

And what about the ice in the bucket of dirty water? A clear danger if your on a bike or in a car. Some just take it too far and that spoils the whole happy event.

You could always stay at home and watch the TV... let others play.

What is wrong with these ppl? The virus has not disappeared yet and you letting ppl to gather and play water. INSSSSSSSSANE!!!!
