Thai police say they're stepping up enforcement of COVID-19-related public health orders immediately, taking particular aim at private parties and social gatherings.

 

Police forces in so-called ‘red zones’ are set to crackdown on the gatherings in a bid to curb further spread of the virus.

 

According to an order issued by Police Deputy Director-General Maj. Gen. Damrongsak Kittipraphat, rule breakers will find that parties and social gatherings will become a higher priority for officers than normal.

 

Police in red zone areas, which include Bangkok, Pattaya, Hua Hin and Chiang Mai have even been told to halt manning drunk driving checkpoints in order to prioritise stopping private parties and social gatherings.

 

According to Thairath, police will be on the lookout for signs of people hosting parties, such as flashing lights, loud music and large amounts of unusual traffic.

 

Police will also be monitoring social media for evidence of a party of social gathering taking place, especially in places such as hotels, resorts, apartments, dormitories and motels, where drugs or alcohol may be consumed or where gambling may occur. 

 

The public have also been encouraged to report any illegal parties or gatherings.

 

Police will also continue to target any venues such as bars or pubs, which continue to open in ‘red zones’.

They should have added    " or anywhere else we feel there is an opportunity to extort money"

So they don't trust the people with listening and obeying directives and restriction order? Oh heaven to Betsy what to do.  Time to get the DSI involved, search all social media platforms, look for those parties and then stop those old British ladies from playing bridge or the Germans playing darts.  There is crime to crush, lives to save, Covid only spreads when there are parties.

Road safety be damned, drunks driving cars and running over families eating at the side of the road or running over pedestrians is just fine and no problem.

 

Can someone explain to me why they can not do both things at once please, instead of a checkpoint maybe drive around and while listening for the parties they may find a drunk driving away from one.  Well arrest him and then go take down the party.  Guess that is to hard.....sigh

Damn, the poor guy ringing that bell on night shift to wake them all up is going to be busy ...

I look forward to an increased police presence on the streets during the night hours - constant foot and vehicle patrols, a highly visible deterrent is what is needed.

If they drove around 'listening for parties', they'd be stopping at every other house due to the volume of the music.

The only rule I have seen regarding this is no gatherings of 50 people and more.

 

Is it OK for 5 to 6 people to get together for a few beers in a private home?

And here was me thinking that they had been doing this for the past year or so.

Its a bit hard to keep up with the current rules, given that all three levels of government are issuing rules, National, provincial and local.

You may only see the provincial rules and not the local or national rules.

It will probably depend upon the, how can I put it, apparent fiscal credibility of both the property and the individuals!

 

Nice house, smart cars parked outside, gentle background music; the raid will be led by the boss in his tightest uniform, complete with assorted ninjas, TV cameras and the wicked perpetrators paraded in front of vinyl backdrops.

 

Shack down the road, old stereo blaring out, a dozen bottles of Lao Kao ( and two glasses) - not worth the effort.

Pattaya Plod have been conspicuously absent for over a year.  After all the overtime accrued sitting staring at their phones during Songkran, I would be surprised to see them out after dark let alone on foot.  These rumours of perambulatory, nocturnal excursions is a surefire recipe for heart attacks after a lifetime without excercise.

I think they are probably broken.

 

Your post reminds me that I haven't seen one or heard one for ages. They used to be quite common up here, what with the border around the Golden Triangle. The helicopter shed at the Border Patrol Police base in Mae Chan has been empty for ages, and the one tied to the ground behind the guardroom at the local barracks has weeds growing over the skids!

Oh well they lasted about a week, better than nothing I suppose. 

Ha ha ha , they will Police this like they do ( not ) police, Ilegal gambling Dens, Casinos, Pubs , other places  as long as the envelopes keep coming.

The RTP have shown they can not even  police themselves.

 They are still operational when Dignities and Royalty are Visiting.Occasionally For drug curriers also.

The pompous look at me I am a volunteer boy, but I have POWER....not.

There are still parties going on in our area. Loud one last night the usual banging base and off key singing. Also had the flashing lights going...but no police came to stop it.  Also have seen the old farmers and some younger guys drinking quite openly at the ma and pa shops.

So how did the huge wedding party in Suphan buri get to go ahead without the knowledge of the Thai police?

Great to see  that they are taking this seriously.

This is certainly not a time to be partying. 

It only takes a few careless people to spread the virus onto millions of others. 

But i wish they would also take traffic violations as seriously as this!
