Thailand's Immigration Bureau are utilising their fleet of so-called "smart cars" to bring home the message about Covid-19 prevention, reported Daily News.

They will be out and about in their jurisdictions making sure that everyone is wearing masks, washing their hands and only going out if absolutely necessary.

Deputy at the IB and spokesman Pol Maj-Gen Achayon Kraithong said that IB chief Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang cares about the Thai people and foreigners residing in the country.

The police don't want to catch and fine people but want this to be a PR drive to help get everyone onboard with the strict measures now in place as Thailand battles the third wave of the virus.

Pol Col Phakpong Sai-udom added: "We're here to help 100% - let's fight this together".

The BMW car was out in Torung market in Prachuap Khiri Khan and the downtown provincial capital, the media further reported.

Wouldn't these 'Smart Cars' be better employed in track and trace? In some respects this is what they were designed for. Just a thought.......

What a load of xxxxxs, they are using them cars for anything, just to try and justify the total waste of money buying them.

So they need an expensive car to check if a person has washed their hands, how bloody stupid.

it's a car with a laptop and a network link via sim card - big deal, nothing remotely suffisticated or smart about it, a smartphone or tablet would be just as effective for all it does, look up a foreigners visa status - big deal

every Police car in the west is equipped with specialised equipment that is automatically linked into multiple national databases and work automatically for many functions

What about Tourist Police? They have cars and no tourists to assist!

Actually, you did.

They only want to sell fine waivers.

Yea I saw the BMW police car battling covid yesterday on koh phangan. The vicious BMW took his battle from the khao khao moo stall down the street to the kweeteeow shop. It was like Moses parting the Red Sea the covid was defeated and ran off the island.

They are bored to death as 99.x% of over-stayers wiped off and no fresh supply (damned Covid extension!) ????

The real smart one is the guy who allocated the budget for the over-priced beamers, and then creating their particular mystique in the media by continuously advertising their smartness and their "success stories", while salivating over his offshore accounts.

A police officer on a dumb motorbike would accomplish the same. But hey, these smart cars have to be put to use somehow.

Its a shame these ‘smart cars’ can’t be utilised alongside dumb motorbikes to patrol for those riding without helmets, without seatbelts, jumping red-lights, driving dangerously.... so to create an ‘effective’ traffic police force thus eradicating the stupidity of the name ‘smart cars’ and maturing to ‘effective policemen’ !!!...  a pipe dream !

And so are the immigration smart cars directly linked to the biometric database.

The camera on top has face recognition function.

Details of what is built-in in this car, with links to credible sources, have been posted on this forum not so long ago.

Anyway, your cynic and uninformed drivel has earned you some like. Good job
