Sophon Cable TV on Facebook published pictures of white foreigners brazenly walking about the beach area without wearing masks.

They had the familiar "Pattaya costume" of shorts and no top but it was the fact there was no face covering that was concerning the media.

It was not just them, some Thais too were flouting the law that can see a top whack fine of 20,000 baht imposed.

Sophon said that the police and DOPA officials were not doing their job cracking down on tourists and Thais not wearing masks and it was time for them to act to prevent the possibility of more Covid spread.

Strict regulations are now in place in Pattaya after establishments were ordered closed and other restrictions including compulsory mask wearing outside were introduced as part of deep red zone measures.

While the people in the pictures and story are referred to as tourists it is more likely that they are expats residing in the area, notes Thaivisa.

I wish they would....  I was in town yesterday and must have seen a total of 12 people without masks, or wearing them improperly. One was a Thai, smoking a cigarette as he drove nearby my place. The rest, all Western of appearance. It is really irritating... I know it is not my place to police Pattaya, but they put others at risk and are behaving like scofflaws, in the country that hosts them.

I went out for a drive yesterday up into the moutains, great scenery and  saw many Thais are  not wearing masks at  all,  very easy to see  all of  them on motorbikes. This is  of  course out in the rural countryside away from prying eyes.

But you are in a  known area for foreigners, away from prying eyes  out in the rural  countryside many Thais  by me wear no masks.

I do have a lot of sympathy for Thais..... in the open air, stuck outside in the daytime heat.......all day everyday.......

Yes, but by far the majority of people I saw were Thai....  and were wearing masks correctly.

If exercising, masks are not required?

100% here are Thais and  aren't.

Doesn't  seem to be clear as many have questioned this  on  this  forum.

A  group of  Thai cyclists ride  pass my  house every day, they don't  wear  masks.

Rural areas have always been an entity upon themselves... but the high Covid areas are metropolitan, Bangkok, and yes Banglamung.   Guests in the country should really show some respect, certainly not point to others and say 'well he isn't'... that is schoolyard stuff.

Some here would question the existence of baby pigeons, having never seen one.

This article is  clearly  meant to stir  up the "bad  Farang"  image when its  apparent to me  many more  Thais are not wearing masks. It really matters not one bit as to where masks are or  are  not  being worn when rules  have been issued clearly  stating  they should be worn when leaving home outdoors.

I  think you  will find it was mentioned in Phuket very recently that not wearing a mask when exercising was  allowed. Again  stupid to  have rules for different areas goverened by the  regional boss, just creates confusion.

You  only  have to  look at the last few  days of foreigners can get a  vaccine  and then the usual complete nationalistic U  turn.

Not sure, but the guy with the black shorts does seem to have a Sportsman physique, darts quite possibly.

I  could go  out right  now and get much better pictures. Don't  make me????.

Pattaya is not in Phuket! Provinces can have their own rules. This place is full of confusion, but the mask wearing requirement is unequivocal.

Foreigners pay fines , Thais do sit ups, or push downs.... and a lot of Thai this morning on the news applying for a loan on the bank were not wearing a mask even the staff of bank no mask and no social distancing too.. But the falangs are bad ones and are treated improperly by everyone in this country so why should they follow the rules than?

  • Popular Post

I'd fine them for not wearing shirts in public as well!

Nobody needs to see that.

So why does the title whack on foreigners only? some sort of satisfaction hitting on foreigners giving us a bigger bad name? In CM I saw many Thai not wearing masks yesterday. And it is the Thais and the Thai government people who have been spreading it.

Oh where to start... bank tellers are behind glass screens and last time I went into a branch, they were being quite stringent. I will give you one reason, they can be chucked out!

This article is from last year but states this, can you show  me  a new one mentioning exercising?  https://thepattayanews.com/2020/05/07/mask-wearing-remains-mandatory-in-chonburi-fines-still-reportedly-given-out/

However, it was also stated that one should always have a face-mask on their person and be prepared to wear when not exercising. The Pattaya News advises readers to ensure they have one available if stopped or asked while out for a jog.
