Hua Hin: Cluster at pineapple factory now 100+ - it came from engineer who kept quiet about visiting pub

Daily News reported that 112 Myanmar migrant workers had now tested positive for Covid-19 at the Quality Pineapple factory in Ban Nok Noi on the Hua Hin Bypass.

This is out of 257 tested.

Spraying of disinfectant was taking place in the factory, workers' rooms in the factory and even rented rooms in houses outside the factory.

The factory is sealed off with a close watch on comings and goings.

Locals have called for production to stop; deliveries of pineapple for canning are made from the north and eastern seaboard.

A field hospital with 250 beds has been set up within the factory to house those with no symptoms or mild symptoms. Those with severe and medium symptoms have been taken to hospital.

The source of the outbreak is an engineer who did not give information and his timeline after a visit to the Thong Suk pub at the start of April.

He infected a 4 year old child in a rented room within the factory and it spread from there.

Deputy governors of Prachuap Khiri Khan Phromphriya Kijanuson and Chamaiporn Amphaijit held a video conference meeting yesterday to discuss the outbreak.

Daily News reported 27 new Covid cases in the province meaning that 1,167 had been infected there since the start of April.

Of these 881 had recovered, 282 were being treated with 11 serious and 19 medium.

There have been four deaths from the virus.

White foreigner walks around without a mask .......... end of the world, deport all white folk.

Is it just me seeing this, or am I being totally paranoid?

They should start making examples of people like this and keep putting it in the media, 5 years in Bangkok Hilton and if any people died from the spread, they should increase it to life in prison !

Two wrongs doesn't make it right as the saying goes.

To your questions, no idea and yes

The Daily News article doesn't say he gave it to the child while in a rented room - it simply says he passed it to a 4 year old who lives in rented accommodation with their parents within the factory area.

Was the engineer Thai ? A Thai infecting 112 Myanmar workers ? I'm surprised it's not brushed under the carpet.

It's amazing that they linked this to some guy going to a pub more than a month ago.

If he contracted the virus at the pub at that time he will likely no longer test positive any more.

There's more to this than we are being told.

I ask why are Migrant workers doing this work with so many Thais on the poverty line??

Thai men far too lazy to do a menial task such as working to support their Family. Grrrr!

No, and not paranoid, but as the saying goes "there's none so blind as those who will not see"

Yet the daily numbers reported by the CCSA on this cluster only list 100 infections. Where are the other 12.  Are they going to lock up the factory with razor wire and keep them inside like they did in Samut Sakhon, and will we ever hear anything more on this subject.

The article says "The factory is sealed off with a close watch on comings and goings.".  That to me is not sealed off.  Maybe sealed for the migrants workers but Thais are free to come and go? whats the real story.

Well it was probably more the fact of him flipping everyone off.

Or the daughter of one of the other workers he was visiting. Pathetic comment by Keith101.

There's also a curfew here, so I would take those posts with a pinch of salt, having a few motorbikes outside a bar is not exactly evidence of packed bars in Phuket which you mentioned.

I am not in Bangkok or Phuket, but I have quite a few customers in both locations, and they tell me they have no issues getting a drink in a bar, but of course you have to know your way.

That was so during the previous lockdown in BKK, and it is so now.

By the way, I have not mentioned anything, I repeated what member is those locations mentioned

I live in Phuket and have done for 15 years I can tell you its not the case here, you can no doubt get a drink in a restaurant as long as its not obvious but bars are closed, large fines and shut down for 5 years for those who break the rules, this happened to a thai frequented bar 2 weeks ago.

Looks like the workers there are gonna be on the Dole for a while....

Get it????   ????

How do they know he got it from the pub?  Maybe the four year old gave it to him

Pineapple and red herring factory.

112 Burmese infected out of 257 tested.  I wonder if there's any reluctance to delve into the travel itineraries of any of the 257?  Or their immigration status?  Or maybe they did, and don't want the public to know that plain vanilla human trafficking and negligently porous borders are the root cause of the outbreak?

Difficult to blame the dirty Farang for this.....
