Hi, does anyone know if the beaches are "open"? For example the one at Cozy Beach with the sunbeds? Is it allowed to "sunbathe" there alone and support the local sunlounge sellers by doing so? Or is this all closed and not worth a trip?

Beaches are closed, no sunbeds. The Lifeguards move you on on Dongtan beach and the police drive up and down occasionally shouting to get off the beach on their loudspeaker.

Welcome to Pattaya.  It's no fun here right now.

https://thepattayanews.com/2021/05/12/pattaya-police-continue-to-crack-down-on-social-gatherings-mask-wearing-and-public-drinking/

-6000 baht for having a beer near Jomtien Beach alone

-4000 baht for sitting with one person outside of their condo, one person had an alcoholic     drink

-5000 baht for walking on Soi Buakhao with a beer from 7-11 alone

-20,000 baht for a group drinking on the beach who all live together

-6000 baht for not wearing a mask while bicycling.

Likely none of those people were wearing a mask outside....which is the point. Wear a mask or prepare to be fined.

I am having fun here. There is more to life than drinking beer on the street.  If you want to hang out on Bua Khao, drinking beer and consorting with ladies for rent, drink your beer through a straw...with your mask on. Don't like it, then stay home. There is fun to be had. Adapt or break.

Wandering around drinking alone is your idea of fun?

The bicycle thing sounds stupid....you don’t need to wear a mask while exercising. Where I bike daily only Thais seem to wear a mask while the farangs do not.

They have a choice. There are Apps for that. They can also negotiate with their girl of choice with their masks on whilst outside. But if they want to flout the rules by removing their masks and drinking beer whilst doing what they do; then no need to come here crying into their beer when they get fined.

I wear a mask whilst cycling. I'm not Thai.

Really just a load of foreign children here. No surprise when they all thought they were coming to a playground (for adults).

Just being. Life is great.

Did you like Pattaya before covid?  If not, why did you chose to stay here, and if so, why, if you like it so quiet?

I have friends here. None involved in the sex industry. Where I live is beautiful. Beachfront. The weather is good even when the weather isn't good. No element of the sex industry where I live.

Central Pattaya is seedy and the beach dirty.

Now there is less pollution and less traffic it is even better for me. But it's not all about me.

Innit funny how all the righteous souls on here all live on the beachfront in expensive exclusive huge mansions or super dooper extra deluxe penthouse condos the queen of sheba would be proud of, nowhere near any seedy area but they manage to gravitate to the seedy slum like areas of the city where sex is freely available ( at a price ???? ), can anyone hear a bell ringing ? That'll be my leg, someone's pulling it.

You just made that all up didn't you? Perhaps you can link to the posts of the people whom you describe. All of them.

It's not about the money, it's about choice.  For instance some choose to live on Soi Bua Khao or surrounds. Why?

I like your Jamie Oliver style mock cockney...so that you can pretend that you are one of the lads.

I don't pretend. I don't want to live in sleazy and dirty areas; full of ne'er-do-wells and the homeless, drunks and prostitutes.

If the cap fits, wear it. If you like it there, then enjoy. But why the snide remarks at the people who do not?

I go there to visit the shops and supermarkets and to help those less fortunate. I will give freely; rather than demanding sexual favours in exchange.

You might choose to see yourself as contributing to their welfare...to make yourself feel better about what you are doing.

I do things my way; you do yours your way.

^^^^^ ???????????? who rattled your cage ? It was a general observation from over many years of reading this site to actually posting, I never mentioned you at all, and it has nothing to do with you at all so I don't understand your need to defend yourself, I live out by Lake Mabprachan, I haven't been into town since my last dental appointment back in March I think and have no plans to go anywhere near the place again until I get the jab of my choice thank you.

So so sorry if you identified with the description, not my intention at all, have a nice day ????

PS: I was born in Fulham, London in 53, used to play on the bomb sites as a kid so I have a cockney accent ????

You make it sound like Krabi, Koh Tao or some Andaman coastal Paradise.

It's a dump. Might be ok for you, but it's a dump.

That's subjective.

It's everywhere in Thailand.  Hard to escape it.  I doubt you are too far removed from it.

Sat opposite Amazon with a cup of coffee, about 3m from the footpath, against a shady tree, by myself, no food. Life guards, very friendly, moved me off but permitted me to finish my coffee. Thai couple eating food also moved on. No signage indicating closure, nothing roped off as previously.
