I would not accept the Corronavac  vaccine produced in  China .A country that bulked up baby formula just to make more profit  causing infant fatalities and are under suspicion of starting the corona virus in their chemical laboratories in Wuhan.
The Russians produce Novichok poison and use it to kill dissenting Russians in exile.The most recent attempt was in  Salisbury in 2018. Would you accept an injection from the  people who use indiscriminate chemical warfare in foreign countries to silence dissent from its own citizens.I would decline Sputnik vaccine made in Russia.

The Astra Zenaca vaccine was available to purchase during the first wave of infections is now being  produced belatedly under license in Thailand and will not be available until mid June and beyond.

The government has backtracked repeatedly on statements agreeing to make imported vaccines available to private hospitals.

It was announced this week that Buriram has decreed covid injections are now compulsory with a penalty of up to two years prison for  default .
While i agree everyone should  be vaccinated they should have a choice of vaccine.A prison sentence in Thailand currently would almost guarantee covid infection.

China's vaccines have been used on some 250 million people globally.  NO reports of significant deaths or adverse effects.  About like the other jabs.

 

They are effective and will keep you from dying, or out of the ICU with a tube jammed down your throat.  Pretty good, IMHO.  Especially if that's all you can get.

 

We'll all be getting boosters in a year anyway due to the variants.

Sinovac has not been tested in kids.

AZ neither, but as of now their is no AZ in Thailand. 

AZ is contraindicated in young woman in low-incidence environments,  certainly teenage girls.

A 50pc efficacy reduces your chance of getting Wuflu by 50pc and a second jab ups it to 80pc with a commensurate reduction in serious illness. Seems a good bet if nothing else is available until August? The Indian mutation won't wait whilst we pick and choose!

Go and check out Bahrain, who used Pfizer.

 

Half the problem in these places is that people get the vaccine and assume they are immediately invincible. However, all vaccines take around 3 weeks to start functioning correctly and in that period, you are still just as likely to catch covid, especially if you think you are protected and forget about all the safe practices. Hence it spreads quicker, figures rise etc etc.

The countries which have succeeded, started vaccinating before lifting lockdown and got a good portion of the population jabbed before lifting restrictions.

Thailand tried by lifting a lot of restrictions and promising vaccines later. And guess what? ....

The Covid 19 Czar Prayut got a choice and chose foreign-sourced AZ for his vaccination.

Even though his first choice for foreign purchase for the Thai public (now for Thai Expats too?) was SinoVac.

His choice for domestic manufactured covid 19 vaccine was AZ, to be released in June/July?

Seems "choice" belongs to those with political power.

The indian variant is just kicking off there now, too. And, while cases are low, they are increasing rapidly.

If you want to visit, or stay, in Thailand, the answer is you will eventually have to have the jab. I imagine you won't have to do anything this year, but by next year when the vaccines are rolling off the production lines you will have no choice. No vaccine, no visa (same as any other country in all likelihood).

Everyone is eventually going to be exposed to the Covid virus.  Perhaps it won't be this year for you.  But at some point you will be exposed.  The only question is if you will have been vaccinated beforehand.

Through work I know many people based in China, mainly Beijing and Shanghai.

All of them were vaccinated some months ago with the Sinovac dose (along with millions and millions of others in China).

None of my colleagues report anything untoward. All fine and healthy and vaccinated.

What Covid medicine do you want? Currently you will have to go to hospital if you test positive to Covid and take whatever medicine they give you.

 

The choice for vaccines will be whatever has been approved for use in Thailand. Farang will be able to get the current 2 that are approved for free. There will be others down the track you can pay for.

 

Obviously most farang will go for the Astrazeneca.  The Chinese / Russian vaccines may not get approval in western countries and so might not be much use if you want to travel overseas.
